❬ ARRIVAL ❭

Arrival does not happen normally. While the AI known as Aurora would typically handle your incoming- this time it is instead a strange coincidence. And while she would ordinarily contact you, provide you with context and access to the network- she cannot currently reach you. One moment, you are where you were, and now you’re here: in the middle of some kind of Comic-Con looking event. Weirder still: you now have some kind of super power. You will find that your arrival on this Earth may have granted you new capabilities - perhaps someone without abilities is now able to fly, or someone with their own set of extraordinary abilities now has something new to help with.

❬ SUPERFEST ❭

Not to be confused with Hero-Con or Villian-Con. This is a fan-made convention in downtown SF that takes place during a prime Con weekend that boasts that everyone is welcome here. Well, as long as they adhere to Con Rules. Sleep, Eat, Drink Water, Shower, and don’t blast any holes in the walls. They already have enough of those. Despite the recent Kaiju attack with corresponding tsunamis and earthquakes, the Convention Runners are utterly committed. Though it is held and hosted by fans, there’s a nice variety of Artists, Exhibitors, Panels, as well as a live-streamed Cosplay Contest. Artist’s Alley & Dealer’s Hall Are you even a slightly public hero or villain? Find fan art, merch, even fan comics of yourself and your friends- Or enemies. Panels You don’t even need to have anything planned! Seems like there were some cancellations. Slip in and talk about whatever you like. Cosplay Contest Wear your own costume to the contest- Or find a knock off of someone else’s in the Dealer’s Hall. The Water That Makes You Stupid Yes, the convention is staffed and run by fans… But it’s still run by someone, isn’t it? The badge line is long and the weather is sweltering. Grab a SUPERFEST branded water for $12- Or drink from the fountains as soon as you get into the con center. The Convention President is testing a chemical that will make you harmlessly stupider for a handful of hours to loosen wallets and increase overall enjoyment of convention activities.

❬ THE DIVIDE ❭

First earthquakes and tsunamis culminating in wide scale Kaiju attacks, now this. It’s more subtle than any of those things, but reports of people being dragged by some invisible force or teleporting cross town start emerging. And these people all have powers. But none of them are on your corresponding apps, nor in your network. Weird. It would really be best to investigate this matter. After all, it seems the Hero and Villain organizations (League of Heroes and Vale & Venture) want more information, and if possible- to recruit members before the other does.

❬ THE SAN FRAN WALKING TOUR ❭

For the first three days, the boundary that new arrivals can travel seems very stable. It’s centered upon the convention center, shifting no more than a couple of city blocks in any direction. The boundary is completely invisible and totally indestructible. It can only be found by touching it. After those first three days, though, the boundary starts to move, and the newly warped in have no choice but to come along with it, even if they end up dragged through traffic or made to make hasty exits from buildings. Yet should they come truly against something they cannot escape- Like a closed alleyway or a freight train, they will find themselves spontaneously clipping through the force field boundary and projected onto the inside opposite end of the bubble. It must be disorienting to be thrown a few miles from where you just were.

❬ MISSION NOTES ❭

📌 — This Earth heavily resembles current-day Earth. All cities will be what we would find on the map of our Earth - meaning, there is no Gotham, or any fictional cities in play. Players are free to create their own locations within locations! We won't be monitoring this closely, and want to give players free reign to play with the environment around them as they would like. 📌 — TL;DR: A body-hopping interstellar being has come to visit Earth 2’s San Fransisco for the Fan Convention as well as provide a self-guided walking tour. Newcomers to the TDM are stuck inside the several mile radius of his force-field. He doesn’t know it’s happening, but the Force Field is impenetrable for TDMers, and will push and pull them around San Francisco during these two weeks. 📌 — This setting is from our current Off-World Mission. Additional details can be found HERE. 📌 — Characters already in game are welcome to post to the TDM, too! [OOC - Supes is from the end of the movie, but let me know if you want me to avoid movie spoilers! It's still in the no-no zone currently but will be appable when apps open. Also if you prefer prose formatting go for it, I will match!]

This actually isn't the first convention he's been to. Not on purpose — comics aren't really Clark's thing, aside from the funnies in the Sunday paper, but there was that one time that an irradiated giant salamander had attacked the Metropolis Convention Center while Metro Comic-Con had been going on, and the kids there had been so appreciative he'd felt obligated to chat with a few of them, and he'd had a short look at what the event was all about. It had been...interesting.

But the thing is that he shouldn't be at any kind of convention. He'd been ready to take a long shower and a long nap after everything that had happened in the last day or so, and then he'd been here. Surrounded by people in costumes, vendors hawking wares, none of whom seem to be excited to see Superman or even recognize him. And that actually might be the weirdest part of all, if he's honest.]

Gosh.

[Is this some kind of other pocket universe he's been yanked into? It's nicer than the last one, but he doesn't really want to be here. For lack of any other options, he starts walking, looking for anything or anyone familiar, whether it's in the artist's alley or the hall with lines for panels (he skips those). Eventually he finds himself among some cosplayers, one of whom laughs and offers a "nice knock-off costume, dude."]

Wha — hey, it's not a knock-off!

[Eventually, he leaves the building and takes off into the sky. Fine, if he can't get answers here he'll find his own way home somehow. This goes about as well as one would expect when he is absolutely not expecting to bounce his face off a force field.]

[He's not expecting this spatial anomaly to start moving any more than he was expecting to be here in the first place, but at least he can do something about it once it happens. Sort of — he finds out the hard way that he's as unimmune to the moving border as he was to the force field (and it's seriously annoying, it might not hurt him but that doesn't mean he enjoys bouncing into things he can't see), but he can offer a helping hand to those who find themselves being suddenly dragged in front of a car. They might be equally surprised to find themselves being lifted into the air, but this options has got to hurt less.]

PHASE 01 : Artist Ally & Dealer's Hall

[ One minute he's at home, in bed, resting after a physically and emotionally exhausting ordeal, and the next he's being greeted at some sort of large-scale event, dressed in his suit despite being in his pajamas mere moments before. His shock is present and clear on his face, head swimming with probabilities and theories. It's jarring enough that the loud chatter of patrons and the overhead announcements are drowned out by the roaring in his ears as he comes to grips with the very tangible reality that it isn't all a dream.

A patron walks past him without bothering to step to the side and shoulder checks him and Reed, spinning on his heel to make sure they're okay, is found face to face with artwork of his family, artwork he's never seen before. Reed pulls it down from the clip that was fastening it to the stall and receives immediate admonishment.

'Hey! Don't touch the merchandise unless you plan to buy it!' ]

I'm sorry, I just - where are we right now?

[ The plump and loquacious man fixes his glasses over the bridge of his nose and gives Reed a careful once over.

'You kiddin? This is San Fransisco Super Hero Fest, you should know. Looks like you're in the running to win the cosplay contest. Now unless you plan to buy the Fantastic Family put. it. down.' ]

Oh. Right. My apologies.

[ Reed hands back the glossy print and turns around while dragging a tired hand over his face. ]

PHASE 02 : The Water Makes You Stupid

[ Overwhelmed by the sheer number of people at the venue and currently seated in the back of a panel about himself with a cup of ice water and a churning sick sort of look on his face Reed's managed to raise his hand and merely people watch rather than correct the various flagrant inconsistencies he'd already witnessed and heard about the story of his life.

When LARPERs take the stage, though, that's enough for him, and with an errant sigh, he takes another slow pull from his Superfest plastic cup and zig-zag straw. ]

I need something stronger than water.

THE DIVIDE & WALKING TOUR

[ Reed's no stranger to quantum teleportation, but the level of it being so inconsistent and therefore more dangerous makes it something immediately necessary to pursue and resolve. Unfortunately, with no access to his lab and none of the same amenities available to him at The League of Heroes, he's forced to follow the source material and take notes down on the audio dictation device affixed in his suit.

He might seem a little strange, walking by himself rambling about the synchronicity of a certain area or its atomic infrastructure, but when the boundary moves and he realizes he's not alone he's quick to stretch himself thin to provide a parachute for himself and the other person in tow for the knock back, to prevent further sustained injury.

When the movement is through his limbs and torso return to normal, as if it never happened. ]

[A lot has happened since this mission started, much of it has been highly troubling. Loki still feels a bit out of sorts even though Hob is home and safe. Part of him didn't want to leave him, but he suspects he's being over protective. And besides, word is there are new arrivals at the new fan made convention and Loki could use a bit of a distraction.

Loki is wandering the Artist's Alley when he notices someone who looks lost, or possibly confused. Maybe both. He moves closer to hear what he's saying to the vendor when he happens to see that the man is looking at a picture of himself.]

So you're one of the famous heroes then? There are so many on this version of Midgard. I'm rather glad it is not one I experienced myself in my less than heroic days. Things were hard enough as it was. I can't say I recognize you though. We must not have crossed paths

[In order to fit in with the con, Loki has cast a few tricks so he's dressed in his full Asgardian armor, complete with horned helm. It's been a long time since he looked like this and it's kind of fun.]

THE BAT.

( perched atop one of the buildings this whole comic-con event is taking place at is a guy in a bat-like costume. totally not all that strange considering the event happening down below, but it's definitely not one that's been seen around here before and the wearer of said suit has definitely never been here before.

nothing like getting thrown right into the thick of it all.

a few attempts made at contact over the suit's internal communicator, he gets a whole lot of nothing. great. why would he get anything else? hand dropping away from his earpiece, he sighs. )

Well, Toto. Got a sinking feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.

( right. schway. totally got this. been through worse. what's interdimensional world hopping to the bat after all? first things first. getting a better look at this place. he's still got some juice in the suit — gotta use that sparingly, but. hey. what better time than now, right? planning to make this quick, he takes off from the ledge of the rooftop, retractable wings spread and thrusters on and... he actually had no idea how quick of a trip this was going to be because it takes him less than a minute to suddenly slam into something and end up falling from the sky to the ground. he hits it with grace and style in the form of eating concrete and rolling a few times before he's just laying there on his back with a groan on his lips. )

Ugh. Who put the invisible wall there?

( he chooses to forgo the suit when checking out the actual event happening inside, tucked away in the bag he's got slung over his shoulder. might be better to do a bit of recon this way what with being cut off from everyone else who could potentially help him out a bit with this. so, it's the artist's alley he makes his way to. while not really much of an art connoisseur, he can appreciate a good looking pic... although the one looking a little too much like The Joker himself is a little off-putting. for a few reasons. definitely gets him pulling a bit of a face for a reaction despite his trying to play it cool. )

[ The man walking through the artist’s area might stand out in a regular crowd, but perhaps he’ll blend in a little around here. Vincent is tall, though, and the long black hair and crimson cloak could catch one’s eye, along with the golden gauntlet and pointed sabatons on his feet. All the sharp edges may scream ‘give me my space’, and perhaps they’re meant to.

How he got here is already confusing enough. Seeing a gathering of people running around in different costumes (like he's one to talk) is adding a whole new level of strangeness to his day. Sure, people wear some outlandish things at home, but some of the armor he's seeing lacks all form and function. And girls in frilly dresses telling people they're going to be punished? It just doesn't make sense outside of the Wall Market.

It's when he finds a booth with pictures of himself that he's about had it. Not that one can tell with that stoic look on his face. Only the slight twitch of his right eye is any indication he's perturbed. What is he wearing?? And why do some of these pictures have him incredibly close to that pilot he JUST met?

His gloved hand crunches one of the papers in it, to which the person behind the booth shouts, ]

Hey! That’s original art! You have to pay for that!

[ Vincent huffs behind his cowl and drops the crumpled paper. ]

Consider it an act of Chaos.

[ That's the 'hero' name they've tagged him with, after all. He turns to leave the booth, but will pause if he notices anyone watching or nearby. ]

Walking Tour

[ One moment he was in the city, trying his best to stay out of people's sight and left alone by keeping off the streets and to rooftops, and the next he finds himself suddenly jolted to a new location, which is at the water's edge of a park overlooking the bay.

When he appears, he's ten feet in the air, but not one to be caught off guard, when Vincent drops, his fall slows, and he alights gently upon the ground. Well, that was rude of whoever or whatever just did that. But what of others? He can't help but look around and look up, just in case someone else comes flying in without their consent. He might be willing to catch them.

Or if he sees someone who happens to have arrived and appears injured, confused, or in distress, he'll approach quietly to ask. ]

[How wonderful to be in a place that celebrates artists as much as home does; it’s a parade of colour and sounds, and Sciel is here to immerse herself, and nothing more. If she picks up some trinkets for the family, it’s a bonus. For now, she’s content to watch the amusements unfold, and she holds her ground when one of the men involved nearly bumps into her.

She smiles up at him, a little wry. She is decidedly less pointy looking in a white blouse and a tulle skirt.]

A. No One Stays Dead

[Were she anyone else, she'd not know in the slightest how to address this situation.]

[The strangest thing, then, is that she is herself. Something she hasn't been for quite some time now, and indeed should not be capable of being in the slightest. Yet her form and nature are unmistakably hers.]

[Which may not necessarily be the best thing, for she's quite the tall woman in quite the voluminous robes, taking up a bit more space in the middle of a hall than is perhaps quite wise. In recognition of that, she finds herself moving with the crowd simply to keep from balking it, being swirled off in an uncertain direction.]

[Her chance at escape comes without warning, and she takes it almost out of reflex, stepping out of the line of traffic into a spot next to a booth. A spot that is more occupied than she'd prefer, particularly considering the aforementioned size and robes things. Which means she has to offer a smile that, while ever warm and bright as is her nature, is also that bit rueful, to the person whose space she's abruptly intruded on.]

Apologies. I've no notion as to where I was being taken in the midst of that, but I has some concern that the further I went, the more difficult extricating myself would be.

B. What a Drag

[The sight is a fair bit absurd at best: Venat bracing herself, one hand splayed flat against absolutely nothing, with an unsettling scrape as she slides across the ground. That sight lasts for only a moment, though, as she leaps back some ten feet from her position.]

[Uncertain whether those near her can detect what she cannot, she errs on the side of caution.]

[ In a crowded room, Vax is usually one of those who likes to lurk in a corner. He's not anti-social, exactly, but he's a rogue, and when he's moving through a crowd, it's usually for the purpose of picking a pocket. Right now, he's observing, which is the other thing he does when he's in a busy place.

He hasn't enjoyed his time in this city, but it is nice seeing others enjoy themselves. They seem to be having fun, even if the costumes are a bit much. One might say he's wearing a bit too much leather, too, so who is he to judge?

The tall woman catches his eye as she shuffles amongst the crowd until she, surprisingly, edges into his safe little corner. He'll look at, or up at her, if she's taller than his 5'11" height. ]

Uh, no problem.

[ The elf tries to give her a bit more space as he observes her. ]

This place is pretty busy.

[ from the looks of things, rumi almost expected to be mobbed. or dragged off to a table to work. oh, wait. that's exactly what happened. she doesn't know how. suddenly she was standing there and in the next moment, she was shepherded to a table with some posters (how???) and a glitter pen and she was staring at the people across from her, absolutely lost but still able to aim a beaming smile that belies only a touch of panic. ]

Hiiiiii. I'm Rumi from . . . Huntrix? Does that . . . mean anything to you?

[ she should be familiar with barriers. all barriers. this one feels . . . oppressive and strange. uncomfortable. the honmoon always feel like . . . a song. glittering in warmth and beauty, its ripples reaching out into the land. of course, that wasn't . . . always true.

she didn't need to cover up anymore and she still had her patterns on her face but rumi still wore a jacket for now. out of habit and . . . she just doesn't want to be stared at.

she sighs, touching the barrier quietly. ]

[ it's nothing special, as she tours along san francisco. she doesn't need a tour, really, she's been here before. huntrix has hit up many of the famous cities of the world. it's all part of their job, their work. but being along like this is . . . odd. she hums a few notes from Golden, letting it drift before letting herself sing the words. ]

[It’s been unusual, seeing a barrier: dozens of people, one minute here, the other minute swept down the street like a great invisible hand has tantrums and swept a table clear of glassware. Sciel herself is not impacted –– none of the Etrayans seem to be –– but she has taken to helping people up when they get flung across the pavement.

It seems stable enough right now, from where she’s sitting on a coffeeshop patio, but she’s prepared for it to happen again. She calls over:]

Careful, mon amie. [It’s a friendly warning.] It might knock you across the street if you spend too long on the edge of it.

[So one second, Kate is trying to track down an unruly vampire, and the next... Geek Central?

She thinks this lovingly, of course. She's friends with geeks.

Unfortunately for Kate, it becomes very apparent very quickly that something is off. There are plenty of cosplays that don't match anyone she'd expect, and she doesn't recognize a lot of the merch. Well, okay. Maybe that's not so weird. She's hopeless when it comes to anime and video games. But still, there are clearly some big name heroes everyone expects her to know that she absolutely doesn't.

So, weird alternate version of Earth? She's hallucinating? She has amnesia? The best way to figure it out is to just wander. Surely she'll find someone she recognizes soon if this is some kind of multiverse hiccup. Probably.

Of course, she gets sidetracked. It's sort of hard not to, in this crowd, and eventually she finds herself in front of a booth with a massive dakimakura display. But these aren't the usual scantily clad anime girls - they're all monsters in sexy poses, from bigfoot to mothman to... Is that Cthulu?]

Oh my God. Do people just keep these out in the open?

[Eventually, Kate wanders outside. After that whole "world cloaked in darkness" thing she was dealing with back home, the sunlight is so bright she flinches, tugging down her aviators reflexively.]

Okay. No more bloodsuckers. Maybe my luck's turning around.

[She says, as she walks face first into the barrier and lands on her butt on the sidewalk.]

[Kate's butt narrowly misses a-- thing? An eyeball with legs? What the hell is that? Whatever the strange jelly-like creature is, she shrieks and dives out of crushing distance with little more than a split-second to spare.]

[As she regains her composure, Aiba runs her little paws over herself-- much like the hamster she's approximately the size and shape of. Fortunately, she's totally intact. She breathes a sigh of relief despite her lack of mouth.]

Er, since you are already down here, would you mind placing me somewhere that is less precarious? Please?

1. Roll for Initiative

[The note that rings out over the crowd is vibrating metal, pure and perfect. The commotion that attracts the eye is for the most part over too quickly to catch, so very few people actually see the guisarme drop out of the sky to slam into the ground, producing that musical vibration. By the time most everyone has turned to look, the sound stops, for she's gripped the haft of the weapon, not lifting it, but certainly looking ominous as flames wreath up the polearm and over her hand, harmlessly.]

[Is pulling a weapon in this circumstance an overreaction? Absolutely not. She isn't brandishing it, nor threatening anyone with it, so as to minimize potential panic, but she will not be caught unarmed after falling suddenly into another plane. That's the sort of thing that gets you killed. At the very least, the sight of a tall woman whose form and figure radiate power needs to serve as a deterrent to anyone who might want to take advantage.]

[...but it does turn out to be unnecessary, for the crowd begins cheering and applauding this particularly cool cosplay weapon effect! A few people demand pictures with it, then take them, without her objecting or even understanding. No one seems to realize the actual potential danger that weapon comprises it, or that the woman holding it could bring to bear.]

[Which is fine. When attention finally turns away from her, she makes a flicking motion with her hand as she releases the guisarme, and it vanishes. Absently scuffing one boot over the hole its point had left in the floor, she finally starts looking around to get her bearings.]

2. Voluntold!

People often underrate a simple fact: victory in battle often as not depends on style.

[If they weren't even going to give her a chance to explain she isn't here to host the panel "The Art of Violence: the Truths and Lies of 4-Color Fights", then she's going to talk about what she knows and they can deal with it.]

You'll hear people talk about technique, ability, raw skill, and the notion that a fighter who is technically superior and more experienced should always defeat an inferior, less experienced one. And that's idiotic, frankly. The moment you see how a person is fighting, you have a basis on which to comprehend their techniques, and a chance to oppose them. Forget notions of purity and elegance. If you see someone running at you with a sword the size of a magic college, you aren't going to bring out your best techniques to overcome a defensive fighter's guard! If you're firing a bow at a swordsman, you know better than to engage them in melee!

[Weary and bitter as she might be, Aliarra remains a Justicar of Skeldric, a crusader who serves the god of war. That flame within her will never die, and it only awaits the moments when it can burn brightest once again.]

3. Bigby's Forceful Hand?

[The sight's just absurd, really.]

[A figure in full armor -- full ominously spiky armor, at that -- with all the accoutrements one would expect of someone straight out of a fantasy MMO or the like, such as a cloak, a banner strapped to her back and fluttering over her shoulders, and two polearms and two longswords in sheaths and harnesses, has planted her feet in the ground and is shoving at absolutely nothing in midair.]

[The nothing is winning. Her feet actually cut ruts in the asphalt and concrete as the shifting barrier forces her to move, despite all the effort she musters against it.]

This is riduculous! Do you have any idea how STRONG I am?!

[So intent on the clash is she, out of pride or stubbornness or some potentially more charitable trait, that she doesn't even notice the barrier is pushing her straight towards a wall.]

Bigby's Sudden Wall

[That ominously spiky armor is why Sephiroth had chosen a different target a little while ago, people that outfitted tended to not be as easily intimidated by large predators, and he's not really in this to actually have serious, intending-to-kill fights. The role of Villain is just that, a role to be played at. So he'd accosted a pedestrian a street or so away to rob them of their valuables. That was reasonably evil. And of course a dragon's interested in valuables.

It's in the process of divesting the man of his very expensive rolex watch with delicate teeth, keeping the yelling man pinned beneath both forepaws that Alliara grinds past at the crossroad of alley and street, pavement cracking, and both man and young dragon stare as she passes, completely and thoroughly distracted from their own predicament.

The watch is pulled free with a careful yank, and Sephiroth abandons his target without even bothering to snatch the earlier demanded wallet, slinking after that well-armored form with the watch dangling from his teeth, alert and terribly curious. As dragons go, he has a LOT of growing to do, but greens don't belong in urban environments, he doesn't blend in at all.]

You should be careful. There's a wall.

[He .. sounds youngish, even slurred around the watch. Perfectly understandable though. One thumb from a wing is pointed in lieu of using his forepaws like hands as he trots to catch up with the force not pushing him around. But he's been here longer, this is a Mission, not a sudden world-switch.

He should help. He really, REALLY should help, but this is in public and he's supposed to be evil. Is anyone else around to notice??]

Dramatic Entrance

[The young woman suddenly lying on the floor in one of Artist Alley's, well, alleys, could very well be in costume. She's dressed in what look to be red and black wizard robes, with incongruously sensible leather boots. She is also, however, covered in dirt and a bit of ash. There are twigs in her hair and mud on the boots. Maybe a little far to take things for a costume.

There's also the fact that now that she's sitting up, she's staring around open-mouthed. Putting on a serious act for a cosplayer. After maybe a minute of gaping, this mysterious(ly dirty) wizard speaks.]

Are you FUCKING SHITTING ME?

[Language, Davi! There are probably impressionable young children in attendance! Fuck that, she's the Dark Lord, she should be corrupting the youth! Also, as far as she knows, she may have just been killed by a goddamn dragon and now instead of anything sensible happening she's...back on Earth? Surrounded by Earth nerds? What the hap is fuckening?]

[You know that thing in cartoons where someone gets thrown against a giant window and sticks there before slowly sliding down? Yeah, a woman just did that into the exterior window of this coffee shop. She's currently mid-sliding down portion of the gag.

She tries smiling at the patrons on the other side of the glass to make this less awkward. It definitely makes things more awkward.

Davi thinks she'd prefer it if the stupid boundary had just left her stuck half-in and half-out of that streetcar it rammed her into. That would have been a better conversation starter.]

[ As soon as the disheveled woman arrives, a lot of people start keeping their distance. Especially after the outburst. They may be dressed like heroes, but most of the people walking around are just trying to live their best fantasy, and she is totally breaking their immersion.

One who is brave enough to step closer is a man who leans forward a bit to stare down at her. Those are either the most incredible prosthetics ever made or.. the elf ears are real. ]

[Of all the bizarre things that've happened to Travis Touchdown? Getting dropped into a con is far from the worst. (An anime or gaming con would've been better, but hey: beggars can't be choosers.) In fact, he blends in here so perfectly, you'd be forgiven for mistaking him for someone who walked in here of his own free will: he's even wearing a shirt with a cool-looking mecha on it. He navigates all the con particulars with the single-minded knowhow of a guy who's definitely done this before-- including the ungodly badge line.

He waits here for about 15 minutes. He's patient for maybe 2 of those, then spends the rest fidgeting; rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet; craning his neck to see the registration desk, which is miles away. At last, he takes a good gander around... then realization seems to strike him. What do you know? He knows where he is.]

Hey. [The dark-haired man turns discreetly toward the person behind him in line. Said, conspiringly, out of the side of his mouth:] I was here for a gaming tournament once. I bet I could sneak us into dealer's hall through the back way-- you in?

[After some puzzling over MUNI, Travis has finally made his way to somewhere a little more suited to his tastes: SF Japantown. And he's having a ball about it: shopping, sightseeing, wolfing down a huge crepe, the whole nine yards.

Until the boundary begins to move again.

He's in the middle of paying for a... somewhat suspect-looking DVD... at a video store within the mall when the bubble begins to creep forward. He glances nervously over his shoulder as it inches nearer, seconds from pinning him to the glass counter.]

C'mon, cmon-- guh!

[He throws his cash down on the counter as the elderly cashier bags up his purchase, but it's to no avail. The boundary has squashed him all the way against the register. A split-second later? He is AT THE FUCKING PIER. With no rare hentai.]

You gotta be fucking kidding me! [He stamps his foot. Tourists circumnavigate him. A sea lion barks loudly in the distance, as if mocking the poor man's plight. It's never been more over, man.]

[ A breezy afternoon at the pier. No better place to kick back on the bench and catch up on the latest hentai fads. Don’t ask him where he got this small stack of manga sitting next to him. He knows a guy who knows a guy. This spicy little number that House is reading is about a refrigerator and a toaster being personified and transported into a MMORPG. And don’t get him started on who is putting what in where. Wowzers!

Man…what will they come up with next?

There is a sudden shift in the wind. His bench is only a few feet from the barrier. It wasn’t so hard to spot with the gust of cool, artificial air conditioning brushing against his face. ]

Good morning, sailor! [ He licks a thumb and turns the page from right to left. ] Lovely weather we’re having.

Lune has never been so confused in all her life.

She's had very little opportunity to sort out any trauma of the circumstances that led into her arrival here, but if this is some sort of afterlife, it's probably a fitting recompense for her perceived failures. She wanders the con like a fish out of water, a look of bewilderment stuck on her face as she takes everything in with wide eyes – clad in her somewhat rumpled expedition uniform, she might look the part of a con-goer herself, but the innocent questions of "Who are you supposed to be?" thrown her way garner them a look of silent annoyance with a side of more confusion.

She's quickly getting overwhelmed by the crush of people inside the con center. But when she eventually finds her way outside, she's quickly brought to a halt all over again, staring at the tall buildings and the zooming cars like someone who's never seen them before.

"...What is this place?"

Other people find the edge of the barrier before she does, luckily, sparing her from walking straight into the invisible boundary. Lune tests her palms cautiously against it. It's not like the shield dome of Lumière, even less so like the barrier around the Monolith. Her curiosity sparks in spite of herself, already working over the details in her head, murmuring to herself.

"What are you made of? Not chroma, clearly. The lack of it in the environment is..." she trails off, lost in her wildly whirling thoughts, a deep frown knitting at her brows.

She turns her head, spying the closest person to her. "Has this always been here, do you know?"

So, that barrier moves. Lune discovers that the hard way, her flashback to the Crushing Cavern accompanied by a very real flash of fear that she's about to perish all over again when the moving forcefield squishes her into a side of a building. But instead she's moved elsewhere, reappearing out of thin air; just a good five or so feet above the road underneath.

She's able to use just enough of her innate chroma to soften the landing, not falling so much as floating down the handful of feet separating her from the ground, her bare feet slapping against concrete as she staggers a little upon landing.

"Merde. That'll get old fast," she determines, shaken and annoyed, brushing herself off and trying to figure out where exactly the barrier flung her at. Not that it makes much difference, she'll be just as lost as before.

[Some of the tension bleeds out from her upon discovering the lack of chroma in her local environment. Her caution is replaced by curiosity. She loses herself to her desires; thoughts spiral into theories, impressions become ideas.

But in the next moment there is an oppressive amount of chroma; a strong presence that distorts the environment. It is accompanied by the familiar sound of a cane tapping against the pavement.

Renoir replays her voice for a second, a third, a fourth time before setting his suspicions aside. Not for all time but only for this moment. She is alone - and she isn't important enough to be concerning.]

Not long. Since this morning at most.

[Has it always been here? He asks himself whether that matters. The reality is that she is here in this moment with the last person she wants to see.]

Arrival

One moment, River is having the most surreal moment of his life by having a drink with Lamb, a drink that actually seems as though his mean, gruff and downright foul boss wanted him to stay? Not wanting to press his luck, he has the one drink, nods to Lamb and gets up to leave, his head spinning with thoughts like how he might have actually gotten through to the man.

Unlikely, but still, what else could explain all that?

He’s so distracted that he doesn’t notice right away that when he steps outside, he’s no longer in London, but… some American city, if he had to guess. River stops dead in his tracks after a few steps when he swears he saw someone fly by.

“What the?”

He frowns, staring off after the flying object, barely noticing in his surprise how pedestrians on the sidewalk have started bumping into him. He’s a city boy though, it hardly phases him. After probably too long of staring off stupidly, he suddenly turns to the first person he sees.

“Excuse me, but where the hell am I?”


Superfest - The Water Makes you Stupid

River’s never been to a comic-con before. Like most boys, when he was young he was a fan of superhero comics, but it never went beyond reading them for him, and even that stopped long ago. So it’s not his intention to go at first. He’s more invested in finding out what the hell happened to him, but soon enough it becomes clear that he might actually find some answers there.

At least he might find out about what seems to be actual living super heroes. Well that, or he’s had a complete breakdown. Either is possible, really.

Once he’s inside, he can’t believe how warm it is. The water, unsurprisingly, is massively over-priced and River has no money so he stops at one of the fountains and drinks. The effects of the water quickly becomes something he isn’t able to figure out for the time being, but it doesn’t bother him. He’s too distracted by all the cool shit happening around him.

“Wow, who knew super heroes were real? Brilliant!”

The San Fran Walking Tour

It doesn’t take long for River to figure out he’s trapped. He’s been trapped before, but in more of a traditional sense. Being tied up and captured was kind of par for the course in his line of work. Then there’s the more existential kind, where he’s felt trapped by being in Slough House, his career stunted by the selfishness of a so-called friend. But what’s happening here is not anything he has any experience with. In fact, until a few short days ago, he would’ve assumed it wasn’t even possible.

It’s actually fascinating. When River first finds the barrier, pressing against something he can’t see, he wishes he’d been better in science class. Because really, there has to be an explanation for all of this. Just when he thinks he can’t be any more surprised, the boundary starts to shift and move. Nothing seems to stop it and out of sheer curiosity, he stands his ground, wondering what will happen.

Looking around quickly, assessing his surroundings, he finds his back against a wall in an alley way. No way to make him move now, he thinks as he braces himself. Sure, he might die, but at least he’d die trying to leave, or at least figure this place out.

The next thing he knows, he feels himself sailing through the air, a rather embarrassing scream leaving him as he hits the barrier on the other side. He groans as he hits the ground and looks up.

“Well, that was unexpected.”

Walking Tour

Vax is pretty good at getting out of the way of the moving wall, but he's more used to weird shit happening as a result of being a part of Etraya's missions. Having beyond human speed and a pair of wings when he needs them also helps with that.

Right now, he feels as though he's in a safe enough spot when he hears a scream and a man arrives very suddenly. Oof.

Superfest - cosplay competition

Honestly, what the fuck is going on? Alternate planes of existence aren't exactly new to him, but travel tends to be intentional, taking place through complicated rituals and rarely going quite to plan. This-- is an abrupt arrival. He stands on ugly patterned carpet beneath buzzing fluorescent lights. Somewhere nearby, a child shrieks about something called a Funko Pop.

John tilts his head. His tendril-hair twists and coils in the still air, unsettled. The gold glow of his eyes sweeps the crowd, just as a pair of humans approach... grinning like fucking idiots.

"Oh my god," says one wearing what looks to be... cardboard armour? Already lifting a phone. "Dude, that's the sickest Nyarlathotep cosplay I've ever seen. That robe? The eyes? You even rigged the hair. Holy shit."

John stares, his features refusing to resolve fully, like a glitch in reality. The humans don't seem to notice.

"What??" he says, his voice deep and layered like it's being spoken by more than one throat, "I'm not Nyarlathotep. How the fuck do you even know that name?"

The humans laugh. "Oh man, you're really committed. Character voice and everything. That's dedication. The cosplay contest is starting soon, you have to join."

"What the fuck is this," he mutters, half to himself, glancing about as though searching for something - someone - to help him make sense of this. Despite the alien nature of his appearance, the widened eyes and restless movement of his tendril-hair still manage to convey mild alarm. Someone help an eldritch monstrosity out, over here?

Superfest - artist's alley

He follows the signs that say 'ARTIST'S ALLEY'. Tables stretch in neat rows, each crammed with colourful prints, trinkets, plush creatures, and glossy, flimsy-looking books.

John pauses.

His eyes narrow.

There, three tables in, is a massive fabric banner pinned behind a booth, depicting - without a doubt - tentacles. Not like his. These are exaggerated, glossy, glistening in a way that's... suspiciously fleshy. A poster shows a screaming, wide-eyed woman entangled in them, mid-gasp, covered in - he squints - pink hearts? His tendril-hair writhes, subtly curling behind his shoulders like it's trying to retreat. His robe flutters despite the lack of wind. He leans in closer to the banner. The woman in the image appears to be enjoying herself far too much for someone in mortal peril.

"Jesus Christ," is he muttering to himself, or to whoever happens to be standing beside him? "They're into this shit?"

John's gaze drifts to another table displaying an array of prints. One catches his attention. It depicts a figure that looks disturbingly like him-- tentacles, horns, the whole void-coloured aesthetic. The figure is posed heroically, standing atop a glowing rock, surrounded by sparkles and lightning bolts.

"Is this meant to be... me?" he asks, of no-one in particular.

From somewhere behind him, there's a shriek as another con-goer spots the print, and loudly declares, "The King in Yellow is my comfort character!!"

John's expression is unreadable, but his tendrils curl slightly in a way that suggests emotional distress. Perhaps you're within hearing distance when he says, with palpable concern, "I do not fucking like this."

Doctor Phosphorus makes an I dunno noise in the back of his throat. He hears some commotion so comes to see if someone is gonna beat the shit out of another person (preferably in some humorous manner) but it looks like everything's pretty mild.

"Whoa, that's crazy. How do you look like that?"

"Extreme dedication." He cheerfully chimes back in reply. "And also exposure to a lot of radiation." Tucking his hands into his pockets, he shuffles over to the other person seemingly suffering through whatever this circus is.

"Not my monkeys or circus but we might be able to win something." He bounces his shoulders as he doesn't have anything better to do -- and his head might be exploding. Who's to say? Situation unclear! "Shit's weird already. Might as well get a trophy, eh?"

ARRIVAL

How he managed to drag himself away from a crowd that formed around him, he’ll never know. He barely managed to walk across the convention hall to a small alcove near some doors. There he leans against the wall, breathing heavily, as though the effort was extraneous. He’s alive, surprisingly, and he can only hope he could thank Bepo.

Bepo…

His gold eyes scan the crowd, hoping that his Mink friend was here as well. Though there were a few colorful animals walking around (no Mink he’s ever seen) so he wrote them off as useless to help him locate Bepo. Law frowns, clutching his right arm where it has been sewn back on. He doesn’t know where he is, but the memory hits him hard when he registers the ear piece.

This must have something to do with Aurora.

“Damnit.” He mutters, wishing he had his odachi in that moment. “I wonder if Luffy is still here.”

While he may not be able to find Bepo, he could at least see if he can’t find the captain of the Straw Hats if he was still here. He tries to stand straighter, to not look completely like a bum (though between the salt in his hair, and the state of dress one could make the argument).

“Hey,” he approaches someone, narrowing his eyes slightly. “You know anyone that goes by the name of Luffy-ya?”

SUPERFEST: ARTIST ALLEY

All right, this was weird. Law had no expectations the more he walked around the convention hall, but this was starting to get to him. The Straw Hats’ Jolly Roger was emblazoned on everything from bags, to hats, to banners - it was everywhere. Law couldn’t find it in him to be jealous. Though he wondered how much of this was inspiration or simply just a beri grab.

He stops at a vendor near what he hopes is the exit. Not because he wanted to purchase anything, but it was one of the few places in the hall that wasn’t completely packed with people. He stands mostly off to the side, looking over the display with feigned interest until he could beeline it to the door.

He sighs. “What am I doing?” He mutters to himself, shaking his head. He glances at the door.

Time to make his escape.

At least that’s what he thinks before the vendor flags him down. She smiles excitedly, commenting on his costume (it wasn’t a costume) and how the blood on his shirt looked pretty authentic (it was). Law tries to wave her off, but she doesn’t let up.

He’s too tired for this and walking away abruptly doesn’t seem like an option when she reaches out to grab him and make him stay to hear her theories.

Someone save him.

It seems Law has found out he can go no further than a block or two before he finds himself staring at an intersection. His hand is outstretched, touching something, but it’s not obvious what. He frowns, brows furrowed as his fingers touch the barrier.

Something was keeping him from going further, but what? He could only speculate at this point, and would blame Bartolomeo if he had any inclination this was his doing, but it felt stretchy? Not solid.

“Guess I can’t go any further.” He’s clearly annoyed, eyes narrowed at the barrier. “I wonder what’s causing this…”

Maybe he should find out.

It's probably for the best that Law hasn't found Luffy earlier, given that his initial encounter with the barrier had resulted in him rubber-balling into it as an attempt to breakthrough. Really he doesn't deserve to have a stupidity induced headache on top of everything else.

When they do run into each other, it's because Luffy is now following the barrier, trying to find if it has a clear beginning or end--it has to have some kind of way in and out. Luffy doesn't exactly notice Law at first--it's more that he hears the fluttering echo of his Voice, that hum of Haki everyone from home has. It has him pull up short, eyes squinting before going wide, a sunshine grin starting to cross his face. "Torao?!"

[ Well - this is fucked.

Phosphorus wonders how long he has before his head explodes. He isn't sure, but he thinks it isn't going to be long. Waller doesn't seem like the type of woman to be understanding about being sent to another plane of existence. But she does seem like the kind of woman who would have contingency plans for people traveling to other planes.

In short, he's sure the bomb is still rigged to blow. ]

Sucks. I didn't even do anything.

[ Speaking of not doing anything -- his appearance seems to have frightened the locals. Maybe there is some supervillain equivalent to him (not that he would know). But he hears the sound of a gun cocking before knowing where it is. Either way, he holds up a wave of radiation to render the bullets useless as they pass through.

Locating the person who shot at him, he adds: ] You don't want to do that again. [ His head lifts up as he's really thinking that murder might be fine since he didn't do anything maybe he should do something. ]

Eh - fuck it. [ Sprinting forward, he attempts to reach is hand out to grab onto the face of his not-so-would-be assailant. So he can melt through his face and skull. ]

what was the issue? no one was singing praises to guy gardner. no one truly felt he was the best member of the cloth, of the brotherhood of the ring. clearly everyone had been compromised and something was afoul in this world. so clearly it was up to guy to clean things up and fix things— make it known that everyone at this two-bit convention was in the presence of a great and wonderful hero.

Apart from the apparent lack of deodorant, there is a serious issue that seems to be painfully evident the more time I spent wandering through aisles and aisles of questionable fanart, by the way Superman isn't that muscular and Mister Terrific isn't besties with Wonder Woman, she's besties with me.

( in the center of the con, guy with a speaker in front of him created by the glowing green powers of his ring. as the bobblehead rattled on, he began to see swarms of annoyed and rather enraged nerds who were rather miffed at his comment about the deodorant.

he looked at them briefly before security began to walk towards him, causing him to start moving back, hands lifting up as he tried to placate things. eventually though it was clear he had pissed off quite a number of people.

( if there was one thing guy was, was annoying, grating, painfully charming. with a gold tooth shinning under the bright california sun, now stained by the coffee he was drinking, he was wandering around the streets of downtown san francisco knees nearly crashing out from the intense hills.

Wandering San Francisco

[After his encounter with the barrier, River is even more curious about how this place works. He's never seen anything like it and though if he were watching this in a film, he'd assume it was magic. The only problem with that is that magic doesn't exist. So far his best theory is that he's either dead or in hospital. Maybe just unconscious again? He's taken enough beatings for that to be true. Even if all that's true, he can't stop from trying to investigate. Lamb might think his brain is on holiday most of the time, but that hardly makes it true.

He's walking up yet another hill, pretty sure he's going to hit the edge of the barrier again any moment now when he hears someone call out. With a bit of a curious frown, River turns to see an entirely ridiculous looking man casually drinking coffee and trying to order him around. He chuckles slightly, thinking this must be some kind of joke.]

I'm sorry, who are you?

[Guess who doesn't much care for the "convention"? It's this little guy, who already seems like he fits in with his horns and tail, and is already getting some compliments about them. And every compliment gets to him until he can't help but say something.]

Ah? You've never seen such a tail and horns as mine? What do you call those things on your head then! [He's pointing at the cat ears on someone's head, though they're clearly just a headband. No one is offended or confused though, they're all assuming that he's really deep into character. As expected from someone with such a great costume! The immersion!

Though... what character is he playing? That's the question on some people's lips. To which Yu places his fists on his hips like an old biddy.]

Playing? Aiya, you're not making any sense! [Someone might need to be saved from him.]

[In giant gatherings, you surely should have a large selection of food. Surely there's something good among all those stalls, right? Wrong, according to a small, redheaded dragon named Yu. He's so disappointed in the selection that he has muscled his way into a Japanese-style food stall after taking offence at their offerings.]

Come on, now! It may be food foreign to you, but that's no reason to not treat it properly! I rolled sushi for weeks just to get it just right without crushing the grains, and you're here with no preparation or knowledge-- bah! Now be good and hand me the sauce you use for this. [He rattles all this off quickly in almost a single breath, and the poor cook just nods dazedly and hands him what he needs. When it comes to food, Yu is a force of nature.

When he's done frying up a batch of noodles, he places a generous serving of it on a plate and offers it to the customer first in line-- and perhaps that's you!-- and huffs with pride. It smells like food! Oily, salty, sweet and sour, meaty, but the meat is perfectly-cooked and the cabbage, despite glistening with oil and a little charred from the leaves' meeting with the sides of the saute pan, still looks fresh and crunchy.]

It might not be truly authentic yakisoba, but I guarantee it's something to fill your belly in this festival. Feeling hunger at a place like this is no joke. [His claim of it not being authentic is backed up by the fact that it really doesn't taste like proper yakisoba and the servings of each ingredient feels off, but it's still a dish.]

[The recruiter for the League of Heroes begs to differ though, and tells him that the flames coming from his tail should account for something... At which point Yu throws his hands up in annoyance. Then he notes someone pasing by who looks strong enough, regardless of whether or not he knows them, and scurries up to them, waving his hands. If that's you... oops, sorry.]

See, see here, someone else is more up for the job than me! [And he'll present the poor sod with a wave of his hands. Sorry, buddy.]

[ Dion looks over the food but briefly. Sight confirms what the mingled aromas as he waited in line already had: this fellow knew how to cook. For his part, Dion is only a novice. He participated in cooking duties when in military encampments and has sought to improve since finding himself in Etraya, and even that much suggests the fellow is a professional.

The difference is vast, but it allows him a certain appreciation for the craft. Would that he could do the same with limited resources. ]

I'm afraid I've not yet had yakisoba, so I would not know.

[ He admits, voice soft despite the din of the con-going crowd, only speaking loud enough to be heard. Dion steals a glance at the line behind him before hazarding the question— ]

May I ask how it differs?

[ Whether or not the fellow deems it answerable in a timely manner, Dion couldn't rightly gauge. Regardless, he accepts the plate with both hands and an air of quiet gratitude. ]

[This is not Illyana's scene. She discovers - very quickly - that something is wrong with her stepping disks, and that combined with the mass of people instantly puts her in a bad mood. She doesn't so much wander as she stalks throughout the convention center, which scares most people off. But not everyone.

At one point, someone dressed as a fairy prances up to her and plops a flower crown on her head. For a split second, she scowls, pulling it off as the girl practically skips away. But then she looks at it, turning it over in her hands, and eventually loops it over the hilt of her sword.

She's interrupted again when a younger guy, phone in hand, ready to take a picture, says: Sick cosplay! What anime are you from? She wrinkles her nose in response.]

What makes you think I'm from an anime?

[Eventually, mercifully, Illyana escapes the con, which means she also escapes all the Buster Sword jokes (she has no idea what that is) and general mayhem.

The problem is, she eventually discovers the barrier. After walking straight into it and stumbling back, she approaches it more slowly, pressing a hand against it. It doesn't seem magical, or at least, not any sort of magic she's familiar with or can alter.

Oh well. Only one other option.

Illyana hefts her sword, glowing a faint gold, and slams it directly into the barrier. When it, too, bounces off, she seems unphased, and just hacks at it again. Poor strategy? Probably. People are staring.]

1. SUPERFEST

[ Toph is an extremely small girl with blank eyes wearing an elaborate wuxia style fighting costume, bare feet hidden under the long swishing folds of fabric. She's had it custom-made to her size, and it is, of course, entirely green, complete with a headband holding all her hair tucked back. Did she show up here unexpectedly and then promptly get an appropriate superhero costume made? Yes. Did she have to swindle a whole bunch of money out of some losers to afford it? Also yes.

Right now she's holding court with a gaggle of interested spectators after an impromptu panel she'd given about how to craft the best witty putdowns in a fight. Unsurprisingly, it's an extremely popular topic for the attendees. ]

It's probably easiest if I just show you. You really gotta tailor it to the recipient or it comes off cheap, you know? I need a volunteer.

[ Toph starts looking around for an unwitting victim, though on her it's more like she listens through her feet for a long second and then marches off determinedly in a specific direction and starts yelling. ]

You! Yeah, you! You're coming with me!

[ She's about to latch onto you and drag you away if it's at all possible... ]

2. CHINATOWN

[ Later on Toph can be found running excitedly all over Chinatown, beyond thrilled to find so many familiar things after over a year away in Expiation. She'd gotten horrifically homesick -- not that she was going to complain about it like a wimp -- and the few pieces of home she'd managed to put together in Aldrip hadn't really cut it. It's not as good as having one of her friends around, but it's still good.

You can find her waiting impatiently in line for food at a street cart, overdressed and tiny, bouncing on her bare dirty heels now and then. ]

Please, [ she moans, grabbing at her hair dramatically, ] I haven't had jianbing in so long. Let me cut the line and I'll pay you!

3. RESCUE

[ Other people might have a hard time keeping up with the shifting boundaries, but not Toph. She finds them highly stupid and annoying, but by now she's used to highly stupid and annoying things happening that make no sense. Something something computers blah blah technology whatever.

She spots another new arrival (your character or someone else) about to get squished inside a bus stop hideaway as the barrier moves, and she snaps through some quick earthbending to save them. Glass is still beyond her (though it's on her list) so she has to be a little careful with the panes of glass in between the metal poles and roof forming the bus stop.

With precise jabs of her hands from a good twenty feet away, the whole structure scoots backward across the pavement with a grinding scrape. ]

Get out of there! [ she calls out, intending to put it back once they're free. ]

[ This is so far from Carver's scene it's almost comical, but he's been forcing himself to go out among crowds at least every other day to desensitize himself. Trial by fire, or trial by crowds of nerds in costumes. In this sort of company, Carver stands out: dressed in black, sapper gloves on his hands, deliberate about how he moves so no one will touch him by accident or otherwise. And he goes out among the crowds, listening and watching, trying to figure out what these people care about. How they move and why. He hangs back, trying to draw as little attention to himself as possible.

It works more than it doesn't, right up until a small girl marches in his direction. Loud enough to demand attention, despite her height. ]

No, [ he says slowly. ] I'm definitely not.

I. Arrival

[ One moment he was getting ready for the day and leaving his room and the next, Toge Inumaki finds himself standing in the middle of a crowded – very crowded – convention hall.

What?!

It’s not that he’s usually bothered by crowded places, well the sudden shift and unexpectedness has him a little thrown. He feels like people are staring at him, maybe his empty sleeve. Some of them might be.

Toge steps backwards instinctively like he wants to be against a wall to look and bumps into some poor person. He’s quick to turn around and bow, stiff and formal, although he does not speak. He holds his hand up about chest level in a placating gesture, his eyes soft and apologetic. The bottom half of his face is obscured by the collar of his school jacket. ]

II. Walking Tour

[ Toge is known for immense control over his abilities, but when the barrier moves, he’s not exactly aware of it at first until he’s clipped through and dropped rather unceremoniously in the middle of oncoming traffic. He lets out a startled cry. Muffled though it is, it’s entirely possible that someone who hears him will suddenly feel a huge surge of heart pounding panic.

That’s disorienting enough, but then he jumps, landing softly on top of a car and then another so he can end up on the sidewalk. Toge’s eyes are wide and he’s breathing heavily, from the surprise of it all, and while that is probably a somewhat impressive display of agility normally, in a world of superheroes it might not stand out at all. ]

Fish flakes. [ He can’t help himself, his heart is pounding in his ears like he could’ve just died right there! ]

III. Wildcard

[ Choose your own Toge adventure! For all intents and purposes, Toge is functionally mute. He speaks in a variety of rice ball ingredients due to the nature of his power of cursed speech, which allows him to influence things that can hear him with what he says.]

[Dwayne is walking down the street when he hears someone cry out. The sound fills him with a sudden panic, and he instinctively reacts. He turns toward the source of the sound while his body changes to be ready to deal with the potential threat, hair sprouting over his body while his teeth and claws grow long and sharp. When he looks, though, he only sees someone jumping from car to car until he makes it to safety.]

Uh...are you okay?

[He forces himself to shift back to human, realizing this isn't a situation his shifted form would help with.]

Part of Elijah's early adjustment largely centered around waiting for the symptoms from Marcel's bite to return. The shock and confusion is delayed, sputtering like an old computer coming to life. The moment it's clear that he's not going to perish, the rest of the world comes into focus.

The crowd, the excitement, it's a strange dichotomy to his confusion. As he's never attended comic con, it's not clear what he's looking at. Instead, it's some strange festivity that looks, honestly exhausting.

He frowns, scanning everyone and everything nearby, looking for signs of a threat.]

[Elijah's confusion doesn't dissipate as he wanders through the crowds. Superheroes are a bit ridiculous to the elder vampire. They have never been part of his life, as he's always preferred to read the classics above anything else. Between these modern life myths and the lore of his world of darkness, the former doesn't hold much interest.

Still, this allows him to at least relax and take in this strange place he's found himself. Despite the noise and excitement, he's temporarily safe and able to pull himself together.

But, as the place is so crowded, it's inevitable he'd bump into someone.]

[Serena loves going through crowded places but this is a bit like walking through a pack of rabid hyenas as a cute little wounded antelope. She hasn't felt this overly sexualized since she was modelling as a twelve year old for Gap. Some of that has to be the outfit she's wearing, but she's just sure that it's the fact that she's one of the few women wondering around this particular area.

As it is, she's sort of trying to get away from a group of guys that have been trailing her for a while and looking over her shoulder as she does so. It's not really a very big surprise that she ends up bumping into someone.]

Oof. [And that's why she's about to fall over and she reaches out to grab onto something solid to keep her upright. And it happens to be the person she runs into.] Sorry.

From the air, a creature dives down and lands on top of a car, which is followed by frightened screams and a half-dozen pedestrians running from the scene. The vehicle rocks under the weight as its long, taloned hands puncture the roof of the car. It slowly moves from a crouch to a standing position, its elongated legs raising it to a looming height of 10 feet. Its arms are slim but strong, with wide hands. Each of its fingers, branchlike, end in four-inch talons that can rip anything to shreds.

The body of the creature is clothed in black leather armor, but at the neck, black feathers sprout from the skin. The overall form is vaguely human, but also monstrous. The most human element is what part of its face is seen, the chin and mouth very much a man's, but the rest of its face is covered by the white skull of a bird with a long beak that's worn as a mask. From behind, the creature has a large pair of raven wings with weather-worn feathers that beat twice as it scans the surrounding area.

Quickly, several police officers surround the creature with their guns raised. "Stand down and turn yourself in!" Those curious enough to remain in the area start to take pictures or capture video on their phones. This could get ugly.

Vex had heard that there were monsters running rampant around this strange world and grabbed her bow and arrows without a second thought. Even alone, she is still the Champion of Pelor and Mistress of the Grey Hunt of Whitestone and one of the saviours of Exandria. She can't just sit back and watch others suffer. Before dashing off to save strangers, she sends a quick message to Percy and begins hunting her prey.

Of course, since this is a city, she is at a slight disadvantage, but Vex has never let that stop her before. "If only I could get ahold of Vax..." This is where he really shines but there's no use whining about it now. She's already committed to being a hero. Lucky for her, she can follow all the screaming and kerfuffle to an area with people holding guns that look like smaller, sleeker versions of Percy's Pepperbox on a creature that makes the hair on the back of Vex's neck stand straight out. Not to mention all the other people in the way.

"Of course it's a Raven monster!" She's half-sure that she's looking at her twin brother by all the clues, but she's not sure how he will react if she calls him out in this crowd. After a few tense seconds of thought, she just grabs an arrow and notches it with the ease of years before letting it loose in the direction of the monster that might be her brother.

"VAX'ILDAN! I SWEAR TO YOUR GODDESS THAT IF YOU HURT THESE PEOLPE, I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN MYSELF! AND THEN I'LL KICK YOUR SCRAWNY ASS THROUGH ALL NINE HELLS, SO HELP ME PELOR!"

( Generally speaking, Lois is not one to hang around fan conventions. There are times and occasions where investigative journalism meant she would be, but these days, that's less the case, and after recent events, this seems a little too jarring. And a little too real, when she has to stare down at herself in her casual hanging around home clothing and the lack of any press badge and conclude that this isn't, by any stretch of her imagination, a dream.

The dates don't match. The time zone does, but only because once she connects to the convention's wifi it's auto-updating to PST. Which is another doozie, since she figures out fairly quickly when searching the name of the convention she's in San Francisco, but there's no Daily Planet to pick up when she tries a call, none found in internet searches, and also most her contacts list is absolutely useless. Including her government contacts, which admittedly weren't her first reach, but at some point, you consider most anything.

Her attempts to find the local news websites and whatever counts as international news sites gets interrupted when she's outside and hit with a spike of frustration. She was standing there scrolling through her phone in the shade of a tree, and then suddenly, she was in the tree. Smacking her head into the branches and sending leaves and twigs falling, one particularly surprised squirrel chittering at her in high dudgeon.

Lois grabs hold of a thicker branch in the belated reaction, glancing down to where her feet are... not on any branch at all. She's floating. Flying? Uh. )

What the ( The traffic sounds swell as a few cars engage in a honking match ) is going on here?!

So, what do you think would happen if someone was to— let's say, open a door to a pocket universe, and the rules were that you have to exit this universe through the same door you entered it, and let's say, hypothetically, that this invisible barrier moved while you were in this pocket universe, so when you exited it, the door you exited from is no longer within the invisible barrier.

If this were to happen, do you think the person would be free of the barrier, pushed back into it and possibly killed on impact, or do you think the barrier would stretch to contain the doorway? Or maybe there's a fourth worse option? I really don't want to risk a fourth worse option.
