❬ ARRIVAL ❭

Arrival does not happen normally. While the AI known as Aurora would typically handle your incoming- this time it is instead a strange coincidence. And while she would ordinarily contact you, provide you with context and access to the network- she cannot currently reach you. One moment, you are where you were, and now you’re here: in the middle of some kind of Comic-Con looking event. Weirder still: you now have some kind of super power. You will find that your arrival on this Earth may have granted you new capabilities - perhaps someone without abilities is now able to fly, or someone with their own set of extraordinary abilities now has something new to help with.

❬ SUPERFEST ❭

Not to be confused with Hero-Con or Villian-Con. This is a fan-made convention in downtown SF that takes place during a prime Con weekend that boasts that everyone is welcome here. Well, as long as they adhere to Con Rules. Sleep, Eat, Drink Water, Shower, and don’t blast any holes in the walls. They already have enough of those. Despite the recent Kaiju attack with corresponding tsunamis and earthquakes, the Convention Runners are utterly committed. Though it is held and hosted by fans, there’s a nice variety of Artists, Exhibitors, Panels, as well as a live-streamed Cosplay Contest. Artist’s Alley & Dealer’s Hall Are you even a slightly public hero or villain? Find fan art, merch, even fan comics of yourself and your friends- Or enemies. Panels You don’t even need to have anything planned! Seems like there were some cancellations. Slip in and talk about whatever you like. Cosplay Contest Wear your own costume to the contest- Or find a knock off of someone else’s in the Dealer’s Hall. The Water That Makes You Stupid Yes, the convention is staffed and run by fans… But it’s still run by someone, isn’t it? The badge line is long and the weather is sweltering. Grab a SUPERFEST branded water for $12- Or drink from the fountains as soon as you get into the con center. The Convention President is testing a chemical that will make you harmlessly stupider for a handful of hours to loosen wallets and increase overall enjoyment of convention activities.

❬ THE DIVIDE ❭

First earthquakes and tsunamis culminating in wide scale Kaiju attacks, now this. It’s more subtle than any of those things, but reports of people being dragged by some invisible force or teleporting cross town start emerging. And these people all have powers. But none of them are on your corresponding apps, nor in your network. Weird. It would really be best to investigate this matter. After all, it seems the Hero and Villain organizations (League of Heroes and Vale & Venture) want more information, and if possible- to recruit members before the other does.

❬ THE SAN FRAN WALKING TOUR ❭

For the first three days, the boundary that new arrivals can travel seems very stable. It’s centered upon the convention center, shifting no more than a couple of city blocks in any direction. The boundary is completely invisible and totally indestructible. It can only be found by touching it. After those first three days, though, the boundary starts to move, and the newly warped in have no choice but to come along with it, even if they end up dragged through traffic or made to make hasty exits from buildings. Yet should they come truly against something they cannot escape- Like a closed alleyway or a freight train, they will find themselves spontaneously clipping through the force field boundary and projected onto the inside opposite end of the bubble. It must be disorienting to be thrown a few miles from where you just were.

❬ MISSION NOTES ❭

📌 — This Earth heavily resembles current-day Earth. All cities will be what we would find on the map of our Earth - meaning, there is no Gotham, or any fictional cities in play. Players are free to create their own locations within locations! We won't be monitoring this closely, and want to give players free reign to play with the environment around them as they would like. 📌 — TL;DR: A body-hopping interstellar being has come to visit Earth 2’s San Fransisco for the Fan Convention as well as provide a self-guided walking tour. Newcomers to the TDM are stuck inside the several mile radius of his force-field. He doesn’t know it’s happening, but the Force Field is impenetrable for TDMers, and will push and pull them around San Francisco during these two weeks. 📌 — This setting is from our current Off-World Mission. Additional details can be found HERE. 📌 — Characters already in game are welcome to post to the TDM, too! Please mark them as current characters in your header. 📌 — Because of the way newcomers are arriving, players are welcome to treat this as a fourth wall event of sorts! It wasn't anything special. I just came back to our tower.

[ they had a nice time talking to fans, wrapped up an event and rumi just headed off early for a break. ]

[Mm. No help at all, but honestly, she didn't expect it would be. Portal rules are so stupid they might as well not exist. And it might not even have been one of those. So onto another question.]

'Huntrix'. You hunt, I'm assuming. Are you armed or otherwise ready here?

[Okay, the question is implied.]

[ rumi squeaks before gathering her composure. ]

No, no, no hunting! It's the name of a pop group. You know, singers?

[At last, something gets a smile out of her. A very small smile, more with one side of the mouth than the other, but it's certainly something anyway.]

Never heard of a 'pop group'. Singers where I come from, if they're good at what they do, are generally called bards. Don't work together as often as you'd think, either. So, what is one?

[The curiosity is genuine, even if learning yet another thing feels like an immense weight. She knows perfectly well that she can't and mustn't stop learning things just because her head and her soul are both full to bursting. That's just a mental illusion.]

[ oh this person is old old. even jinu had. some idea. ]

Uh, some do. Some people work solo. There's all kinds of music out there. All kinds of singers.

[Yeah. She sure is. Okay, maybe most people wouldn't call 36 'old' even where she comes from, but as far as she's concerned, the last twenty years should count as sixty, most of them clumped in the final quarter of the span.]

So you belong to a group of singers called 'Huntrix'. And are good enough that you'd expect people to reasonably know your name and who you are.

[That's fair, and informative. It speaks well of her to have that level of skill and talent.]

[But it does make her rub her fingers together, a little nervous gesture as she thinks. That means this girl... is very much not prepared to handle planar adventuring. Thank the gods this place seems downright hospitable!]

Beyond that, I'm no one special.

[A simple nod to acknowledge the statement.]

[No, this place doesn't seem hostile. She won't be surprised if the girl prefers to do her own thing, out of the belief there is no threat she might be better off being near someone who's prepared to deal with. That notion might even be true, unlikely as it seems. But she isn't going to let anyone wander into this strange and unfamiliar crowd, in this strange and unfamiliar world, without at least making the offer.]

[ aw. that's sweet. ]

[Nothing subdued about this grin. Bright and obvious, a callback to the girl of twenty years ago who couldn't be stopped by demons, gods, or nightmares beyond knowing, and took utter joy in that fact.]

I've been around the Celestial Wheel a couple times. Something I learned early is that you're always going to find new things. Weird scenarios. Places you don't understand. You can't ever prepare for everything you're going to find, something is always going to be unexpected or strange or mysterious. The way to get through situations like that is to make sure you're a person who can get through even the strangest or most surprising things. And here I am still alive.

I mean . . . that's good but . . . you can be . . . more comfortable?

[Really, now?]

[She folds her arms, lowering her head slightly.]

Comfort and preparedness often are at odds. Truth be told, I feel like I'm taking quite a risk already by not having my armor on and my weapon ready.

[Some of that 'being the person who can get through it' stuff does in fact amount to 'being an unstoppable engine of war, when necessary'. The planes are dangerous.]

[However...]

If this is like your world, though, I'd only benefit from hearing your expectations and understandings. It wouldn't be wise for either of to assume they're unconditionally true, but I'm at least prepared to accept this isn't a layer of hell or Carceri or something. If for no other reason that nothing like that has the slightest shred of subtlety.

[Pride is valuable, make no mistake. Her pride runs fierce and true, bone-deep and written into her soul in blood. But pride doesn't demand foolishness, and not listening to potential insight on a situation is foolish indeed. All that talk about not being able to prepare and needing to be able to get through anything shouldn't be taken as arrogance so great it prevents sensible information-gathering or the like!]

[ rumi smiles, before clapping her hands together. ]

Okay! Then we'll do a little Earth 101. Just to get you up to speed. Sounds good?

[A little part of her, a little part of her, still wants to be stubborn about this. But she makes a conscious choice not to listen to that part. It doesn't represent her best interests. She'll just treat this as getting information from a bard, and that will shut it up.]

[Maybe once upon a time she'd have taken notes. Now she can just rely on her belt, or more specifically, the magic upon it that augments her quite substantially, recall and memorization included.]

Earth? Nooot really that dangerous. People don't usually need weapons.

I would take it, though, that it doesn't often get interplanar traffic... and it's also very possible that I, personally, may have attracted some unwelcome attention by being here. So also keeping that in mind.

[In Aliarra's opinion, she's already lowered her guard well below her comfort level -- she's only summoned her weapon once, and then put it away afterwards, and she isn't even wearing her armor at this point. Of course, the latter is purely pragmatic, because in a crowd like this she would literally impale people on its spikes, but nevertheless.]

At the very least, I don't want anyone to be hurt just because I ended up here.

Well, if that's something you're worried about . . . maybe stick to public spaces?

Most people don't start fights of any kind in those.

It's not most people I'm worried about. Devil, demons, slaad, genies... there are a lot of beings out there who, when suddenly dumped in a place like this, might just start slaughtering the innocent for whatever reason. Because it's fun, because it gives them power, because they're angry...

[She knows how dangerous she could be. So she knows how dangerous anything else could be, were it brought here the same as she was.]

Yeah, but stuff like that gets attention. A lot of attention and people react to it quickly.

And considering there's like . . . superheroes around? It'll probably be dealt with.

There are... pardon?

[This is a word she doesn't understand. Oh, it makes sense as a compound, but that surely doesn't just mean 'superlative heroes', not the way she put it.]

That's what I heard?

Superheroes. People with powers who help keep the peace?

I'm not sure I understand the term the same way you do. I'd be considered something like that, were we home, but that's three-quarters being a Justicar and one-quarter being an adventurer in general.

[Still, vocalizing that thought offers some insight, and it brings a smile to her face.]

But if we look at it from that perspective, small wonder we're on different pages. I'm thinking about it like one of those superheroes would.

Is that something you want to do?

[ rumi is a demon hunter so technically, she knows she qualifies, but that's not a public persona. some people feel differently. ]

[She could answer that any number of ways.]

["It's what I've dedicated my life to."]

["Assuming someone else will is more likely to get someone hurt than anything."]

["You have no idea how dangerous something that could show up here would be."]

[But all of those are besides the point, and confusing the issue. So instead, she simply smiles, every bit the lazy predator not yet stirred to action.]

Admittedly I usually have some help, but lacking it isn't any reason to retreat.
