![]() ⏵ arrival⏴ Arrival goes as anticipated. Characters awaken in the pristine, new hospital, greeted by Aurora and potentially getting a rundown of what's happening depending on their approach to being dropped somewhere new. The door to their room opens, and new arrivals are left free to explore their new environment. When the first round of citizens arrived, Aurora and the companion bots had been largely unprepared. This time? They made sure to put up welcome banners, even if the sentiment isn't quite right. There are cupcakes and cookies set out in the hospital's lobbies, and a digital map has been placed just in front of the entrance of the hospital, telling others how to reach the various locations throughout Etraya. Companion bots wander throughout the city, some carrying construction equipment to half-built facilities while others act as nurses, servers, or sales associates throughout the constructed buildings. ![]() ⏵ rainy awakenings ⏴ Many concepts are new to Aurora, including rain. She is familiar with how it functions, and its purpose, but rain has never been present on the lands of Etraya. Given how new it is, that may not be all too surprising - but the method of how it’s being introduced is… a little much. Rainfall commences in the early days of April, a persistent downpour that waxes and wanes in intensity but never ceases entirely. Most nights in Etraya are characterized by a soothing patter of rain against rooftops. Yet, some nights leave the grounds flooded come morning. Rivers begin to swell, the current much too strong to justify trying to go for a swim. These showers also bring a new assortment of plants blooming across the green lands: bright blossoms whose petals spread wide when the yellow sun shines down on them, while numerous cherry blossom trees have grown out of nowhere, flourishing despite the rainfall. Clover carpets the grassy expanses of the islands, weaving a beautiful tapestry of color across the grounds. ⏵ Getting drenched by the rain can trigger a surge, followed by a slump. Initially, individuals will feel giddy, excited, full of energy, and ready to take on the world. However, in the subsequent days, they’ll find themselves feeling depressed, lacking the energy and motivation to move forward. Aurora advises that these effects are only temporary and should fade within the week, but they can be resolved more quickly by embracing a stranger. Attempting to hug anyone they already know well will not produce the same effect. ⏵ With the rain comes a significant increase in the greenery around Etraya that isn’t fake. Most of these plants will resemble ones originally found in the characters' universes. ⏵ A couple of these plants contain magical properties: The Emberloom is a bright red, fiery flower that only inhabits smaller land masses. Those exposed to its pollen will experience heightened aggression and impulsivity. These flowers will continue to bloom through April, after which the companion bots will search for and remove them from the atmosphere bubble. ⏵ If there is a specific, unique plant that those in game (or those accepted during the next round!) would like to add, please comment to the LOCATIONS page! We’ll add mentions of these to the Outskirts section. Along with the botanical resurgence, numerous new animals appear: glowing fish swim freely through the waters. In the canopy above, new species of birds and critters flit among the branches. Some diligently construct new nests in anticipation of the coming spring, while others seek refuge in the shelter of trees, retreating from the weather. Not all the creatures are so small, or so peaceful. ⏵ Small critters make themselves comfortable in the forested area around Etraya, staying mostly out of the way. There are the occasional visitors that will let themselves in through windows for a quick visit, or maybe a snack, but they’re mostly harmless. ⏵ Several larger beasts make their way into the city to try and find land that’s more habitable for them. Giraffes navigate gracefully through the areas designated for new arrivals, using their elongated necks to reach for the foliage near the hospital when they aren’t finding new places to make themselves comfortable. An eclectic array of cats, ranging in all sizes and breeds, brazenly saunter into buildings they don’t belong. Hopefully, the lioness lounging in the apartment complex's common area does not prevent residents from reaching their rooms, because she has no intention of yielding. ⏵ The leopard adorned with a rattlesnake tail in the hospital's cafeteria may be difficult to ignore, given his determination to devour everything in sight and attack anyone in his way. ⏵ Cat scratches and bites pose a significant risk of infection. In the event a character is injured, individuals can expect the companion bots to quickly seek them out and approach them with a special antibiotic cream developed specifically for these cats. Refusal of treatment may result in severe symptoms, including high fevers and itching. In extreme cases, individuals may begin to exhibit cat-like characteristics, ranging from physical alterations to changes in mental traits. ⏵ Numerous other creatures of all shapes and sizes will be coming and going through the city. You may play with this as you wish! While the uproar caused by these guests doesn’t particularly bother Aurora, she does send out a message to everyone wearing an earpiece to request their assistance in capturing the larger animals that her companion bots may not be able to handle themselves. She has converted an island to the East into a temporary holding area until the companion bots can set them up with something a little more permanent. ![]() ⏵ network ⏴ Welcome to Etraya! Upon your arrival, Aurora provided an earpiece, a device to make communication with others stuck in the same situation more simple. The device connects to an internal network, which is accessible by everyone else currently residing on planet. Whether you’re looking for guidance, camaraderie, or want to see if there are any familiar faces around, this is the perfect place to do it! Please feel free to post any questions, offer your name, ask for assistance, or maybe complain to the powers that be about how you’ve got better things to be doing than sitting around here completing their missions. Maybe they’re listening. Maybe they’re not. ⏵ During April, Etraya’s getting a little wet! Those who spend too long in the rain may experience a few unfortunate effects. ⏵ The rain brings in new flora, including a couple that may cause characters to experience aggression and impulsivity, or take a stroll through others’ dreams. ⏵ New animals also appear! While many of them are friendly, others… are less so. The cats specifically seem to be a little grumpy. Characters scratched or bitten by these cats may find themselves becoming just as catty. For any questions relating to the contents of this log, please reply below. All other questions can be directed to the FAQ. The TDM is game canon, meaning everything happening above is occurring within the game properly. Those who apply to join in the April application round may keep their TDM threads as game canon. |
dick grayson | titans
Hearing the continual beep of Dick's own heart should tell him something, but he's having difficulty focusing on exactly what that is at the moment. It takes work to open his eyes, but once he does he's met by what appears to be an AI. She seems pleasant enough, but there's no trust lost here. His heart drops at the message. One moment he was in his apartment working, and now he's here? The fact that the universe at stake doesn't surprise him, but that they dragged him of all people here to help is a bit of a wonder. He knows he's helped save the world before, but that was only with a team. Where's his team now?
There are several things to note on the map, the oddest being Wayne Manor. Dick has to wonder, that of all the magnificent historical buildings they could drag here, that an AI would bring it? Something is certainly most rotten in Denmark or wherever the hell they are again. It's that or someone with a lot of will smuggled it in with them, somehow. No matter how it managed to be. Dick's very first manner of business will be exploring it, after finding another place to live.
Walking from the hospital through the downpours, Dick finds his mood improving by leaps and bounds. It's enough to bring him out of his normally stoic shell to speak to the first person he sees entering the apartment complex. "Tell me, does it rain like this often? Where are you from? My name is Dick by the way, Dick Grayson." It's amazing he doesn't blurt out his secret while he's at it. No one would believe him-- not here, not without his suit or weapons.
⏵ shadowblooms ⏴
[Night time is not only when the shadowbloom blossoms, but it's also when Dick is most alive. He rarely punches any clock but his own lately. It's strange to be in a new place where his skills don't seem to be needed right away. That doesn't mean he's going to sit in that little apartment and pace the night away. He's done all the training he can do there, and he finds his tools sorely lacking. He will have to look into that later. Maybe there will be clues at the Manor.
Thinking to head there, Dick takes a step outside and his eyes fall upon, or is that into the shadowbloom. He had no idea that he's delved straight into slumber and another person's dreams, and that his consciousness is no longer his own. All he knows is that when he takes a step forward the darkness has grown thicker. It triggers all his natural senses and puts him on alert. He stills when fingers crawl over his shoulder. Dick knows that only seconds before he was absolutely alone. Now there's a hand at his waist. He's certain that he's being attacked and he spins around .... ]
[[ooc: please feel free to insert your character's dream. Dark, friendly, strange, taking him dancing, finding him in an off ally, whatever it may be. We are here for it. Dick will be ready and up for the challenge.
Also if you have any questions, feel free to PM. Wildcards are always welcome!! ]]
arrival
"I think you've been out in the rain too long, mate."
Re: arrival
At least the world looks auspiciously brighter than it did earlier when he stepped out of that stark white hospital and carefully moved into this suspicious new world.
"Why? What's the rain going to hurt. I feel rather great. I haven't felt this good in a long time. I mean, honestly... I can't remember the last time I felt so wonderful?" He glances at the new person with the umbrella, wondering why the hell he's being such a stick in the mud anyways.
apartments-ish.
With some version of Wayne Manor around, he typically keeps to himself there— well. Not entirely by himself since a certain other Wayne drops by and crashes there every now and then as well. Even if the manor isn't as he remembers his own, there's still touches throughout it that are similar enough and bring a sort of comfort to him that he's sure this place has done to elicit that specific feeling from him. He's never not expecting something to happen, but. It's still the one place he'll take over the apartments here.
Ironic when that's exactly where he is at the moment.
He has an umbrella in hand, paper bag of things tucked against his chest. He's the shell of Bruce Wayne at the moment instead of in the batsuit as he typically tends to be and when he catches someone speaking to him there, he looks to him with both confusion and suspicion.
"I'm sorry?"
no subject
Right this minute life seems rather carefree, and light. He feels like he could...skip at any second. A curious mind tries to discern the need for an umbrella when the rain feels so absolutely enticing, but Dick certainly can't find need for it.
Instead, he merely repeats himself. "I'm Dick. Dick Grayson. I asked a few other things, but they don't really matter. You should come enjoy the rain. It's fabulous." Dick laughs in a manner he doesn't usually.
no subject
He drops his glance back down to the young man here. Stares to him as if to get a read on him. There's some sort of gentle familiarity there within his face that he can't quite pinpoint and yet, there also isn't at the same time. Like the manor, in a sense.
"No thanks," it's soft yet curt. "You'll get sick being out in it."
no subject
Still, there's a way that the man in front of him looks at him that makes him move forward and not away. It's is familiar in manner he can't place, and he doesn't seem out to harm Dick. His words are direct and to the point, but they are kind enough.
"Sick. Rain doesn't make you sick, germs do.." He still stands closer to the umbrella. Dick isn't quite certain why, because he knows his answer is correct, but there wasn't a clear definition of how the rain would make him sick and this clearly is a new world that he's seeking shelter in.
no subject
He eyes the man. Doesn't know yet what to really make of him. Doesn't know if he's just like this or it's something along the lines of the rain making him act this way. Regardless, he holds the umbrella there. Keeping himself dry.
"Sounds like something a sick person would say." Dryly said, naturally.
no subject
If only the rain hadn't been trying to sing and tap dance along his senses, the detective most certainly would have recognized all the signs by now, he was taught so much better than this. He was close enough. The eyes should have been a dead giveaway. Maybe the color was all wrong, but the way they looked at him and that natural intonation.
"I feel like I've met you before. That's impossible, I know because I only just got here, but this place is odd. May I ask your name. Also, I'm certain that I'm not sick. There might be something else to account for my behavior, but it isn't sickness." Dick has no idea if he's acting strange, but if he is and the rain is to blame, then it wouldn't be called a sickness. Chemicals are quite possible, Dick recently had to deal with something similar.
That's an idea... and makes his brow furrow.

arrival
But this guy? He's a little much.
She raises an eyebrow and stares. ]
I don't know. I am not from here.
[ She is aware he asked other questions. She just doesn't answer them. ]
no subject
Glancing at the young woman, Dick's brows furrow. His crash may be around the bend, but he still has a while of this afternoon delight. ]
I'm not from here either. I imagine most of us aren't, if that hospital AI hostess was to be believed. I was getting intel based on the fact that this joint seems to have some of us who might have been here longer than others. Strictly theory, mind you. I've got no real facts, considering I only got here myself today.
[Dick's spinning, words and in circles. Things he would never do in his ordinary life. He would have offered the briefest amount of available information, while being friendly. Although, he is attempting to be more open lately. He hasn't had a lot of practice at it. ]
no subject
But the he uses the word "intel" and she watches him a little more closely. Sure, it doesn't mean anything definitive, but it's an interesting tidbit to keep in the back of her mind. ]
What do you intend to do with this theory?
no subject
What does he intend to do with his theory. So far Dick has only arrived, and all he knows is that he was ... there's a deepening to his mood, a heaviness. His brows furrow and he glances at her. ]
It's a theory, it needs to be tested, explored further. I have no clue about anything here yet. I have to find out more. I mean, that's how science works. There wasn't a whole ton of people coming outta that hospital at once, and you seem to be settled in more than I am. Therefore, you would have been here longer than I have. First bit of evidence gathered.
[His mood seems to be crashing and he'd rather be in an apartment when it happens. There's a new theory forming in his mind and it happens to be about this rain. Fucking mood rain. It's going to put a damper on his plans to check out the manor, but such is life. It doesn't look like he's getting rescued from this god-forsaken new world any time soon, so he'll have time, he hopes.]
no subject
Though this isn't idle at all. She remembers what she sort of promised Alex. Talk to people, figure out what they know. ]
I do not know for sure if I have been here longer than you. But my friend has been here a little longer than I have. So I can give you a little support for your theory.
no subject
For now, he's filled to the brim with a sort of anxious happiness that is rather unlike his normal demeanor. Sorry for the science lesson, but Dick can't help it. At least they learn a little something. ]
Thanks. I guess this means we're all being collected in stages for whatever this place has planned. Although, I'm not sure how it means to test us in order to save the multiverses, or whatever it is. I'm still somewhat unclear.
[It was a lot of information at once, and he knows that there's more in his brain that he learned about the mission, and he even had a planned laid out for what he planned on doing now that he was here, but it's foggy and less easy to access. He feels more spontaneous, and that irks something deep inside him.]
Know anything else I should keep in mind?

shadowbloom.
which is when dick may notice he's in gotham, standing atop one of the higher skyscrapers - and they're not alone. robin stands just a few feet back behind nightwing, cloak resting over his shoulders in a way that disguises the bright colors he wears under, even if a little of the yellow lining is still visible.
it won't be hard to discern what's real and what's not. damian tends to have overly vivid nightmares, the kind that have him jolting out of bed and grasping at the fabric below him to reground himself. but dreams like this? it blurs around the edges. nightwing is there, solid and present, but he feels less present than damian does. as if he's missing dimension, pieces that make him whole.
damian misses nothing. the scowl on his face, while less intense than bruce's, mimics his father's. )
I didn't invite any interlopers.
no subject
Squinting at himself, Dick says nothing. His eyes shift to take in the fact that the darkness has given way to the noted gloom of Gotham. This is a place that he's well versed in. He knows exactly where they are, even if it feels slightly off center. Everything about this feels off. Alarm bells go off in every corner of Dick's brain, and then he spots a Robin that he's completely unfamiliar with.
Brows furrow, and he wets his lips. He knows that this is a dream, or some version of an alternate consciousness placed on him by a chemical. Dick is smart enough to discern that much. He's been through this before. Watching the scowl on Robin's face convert into one so similar to his mentor's interests him. ]
I don't even know who you are, or even where the hell I am. Feel free to explain at your leisure, given that we have one.
no subject
I'm Robin. The annoyance beside me who isn't here is Nightwing. ( or who was there for a moment, but with a smile and a snarky salute, nightwing dissipates into nothing. this is damian's dream, and now that he's alert enough to recognize it, the dream follows his rules. or at least most of it does, because the man standing in front of him isn't. and damian's--furrowing his brow, pushing the cloak back and off of his shoulders as he takes a few steps forward. )
And you're in my dream. ( the dark night sky begins to shift, hues of green and red visible through dark clouds. damian isn't paying attention to it, he's focused on dick. )
no subject
He's never heard nor seen this version of a Robin, so it throws him off a little, tweaks his curiosity a bit. The Nightwing thing is nothing. He already knew this wasn't his world, their world whatever that was. He nods so as not to seem rude, because he isn't. He's learning, because like all the Robins to come-- he's a detective of sorts. He's the first trained and the guinea pig for all the rest, be it for better or worse. ]
I'm Dick Grayson. I didn't come with my costume. Last thing I recall was walking out of an apartment building to go check out some weird version of a Wayne Manor in this world I got dumped in today.
[The word dream catches his attention. Now it all makes sense. The flower. He recalls it was right there at the entry way. Large, and there were...stars, he thinks. Great, now his body is presumably passed out on a stairwell.]
Your dream. That means, I passed out back by the flower, I believe. It must be another side effect of this new place. I'm having a blast of a great time. Euphoric and depressive rain, and now this. Nice to meet you Robin.
[He pauses and takes in the younger, discerning Robin. He doesn't judge him by his age, because Dick knows that he'd never do that to himself at any age. He did that to Jason, and it got him killed. Batman uses children, and this one has eyes far darker than his face might portray. He takes a quick eye to the clouds while they're at it...turning his head slightly to see what might be changing in their surroundings.]
I take it you... come from a very different time line than mine. You have a name, a real one, or a reason the sky is changing?
no subject
this dick gives away his identity too easily, but damian supposes - they're in damian's dream now, he's in his robin gear, nightwing had been up on the rooftop with him, idly throwing banter back and forth while watching the streets below before this one had shown up. he mentions wayne manor, gives his full name, and damian's about to open his mouth to say how reckless he's being with information, given he knows nothing about damian himself.
instead, his head's tipping back to look up to the sky as it turns significantly more green. it ekes into the clouds, tainting their color, too, and damian - damian remembers this dream.
he's reaching a hand out towards dick, to grab hold of him as his other hand reaches for his grapple gun. )
It's the Lazarus Pit. We need to move, now.

Arrival~
So what else is he supposed to do aside from hang upside down on one of the sofas in the entry way to the complex? He was just thinking about taking a little nap when the man comes in from the rain, and starts almost a barrage of questions and he definitely asked about the rain first but there's only one thing he can focus on...
"I'm sorry did you just say your name was Dick." He's absolutely heaving with laughter now. It's not like the first time he's ever heard the name but just like every time its hilarious. "What's t'matta? Ya don't like being a wet Dick? You know most Dicks looooved gettin' wet~"
He's five.
no subject
The sociable AI told him that he'd find his name on one of these apartments, and even gave him the floor. He'd been a little chatty on the way up, but that was how it was going. Finding this extremely interesting looking character, Dick had to stop. He wasn't expecting a face full of laughter. He should have.
Luckily, the rain was still playing around in his head. He'd heard all the jokes by now. How could he not. He chose, very firmly to go by the name Dick and not his original Richard. No one ever called him that, nor would they ever.
"That's the name, and I love being wet. Did you see me with an umbrella? Here, how about I get a little bit of it on you. You look like you could use a little moisture.." Dick wanders over and shakes his head and wet clothes over on Angel. If Angel's gonna make fun of him for being wet, he better be ready to take the consequences.
"There, now you can say you got sprinkled by a nice big dick coming into the apartment." Dick winked. "Anything else I can do for you." His shirt easily clung to his body, revealing its tightly corded, yet svelte muscled perfection, so really the other guy had nothing to complain about if that's what he was worried about. The Dick he chose to get wet from was well put together.
no subject
"What the fuck!?" He almost hisses out, again irrationally angry considering this is all his fault but there's also an unnaturalness to his anger. He actually wasn't so short fused but lately he finds himself becoming more and more so. It takes him a second or two to keep himself from lunging at the other and giving him a piece of his mind, and his fists. But he stops himself before he reaches that boiling point and he supposes its a good thing that Charlie taught them all that anger management shit.
"The best part of being here is I don't get fucking sprinkled on by dicks anymore. Asshole."
no subject
"Fine, be a fucking grouch. You were the one laughing at my name. It's only a few sprinkles of rainwater. It's not like I attempted to maim you or your first born." Dick backed away. He wasn't up for any sort of a fight. He didn't even have his gear on him. All that was left in his world. All he had was a writing pen and some clothes, strike that, some very wet clothes. Now he would like to find his apartment without upsetting the neighborhood freakshow.
Wait. That word. Dick would have never thought that on his own. He was brought up in the circus, where normality was oddity, and visa versa. His very best friends growing up were all of the very best people in the world and they certainly weren't freaks.
Something one of the people outside had said was starting to make sense to him now. His mind was acting very differently from the way it normally would have, and add to that-- he felt off. No, he wasn't sick, but he certainly wasn't in his right mind. This would have to be studied later, when he could think clearly. Until then, Dick was hoping that he could get through this encounter swiftly and not do anything more unseemly.
no subject
"Yeah? That your usual MO. Killin' and maimin' first borns." He uses both sets of hands to dust off his clothing, the nerve of some folk.
Again, Angel darling, this is your own fault.
"And to think I was startin' to think I had escaped all that shit." When the other mentions getting to his room Angels annoyance seems to clear up some and he just smiles. "Oh go get it tiger." He'd been trying to get back to his room for almost a fucking hour, and clearly hadn't gotten very far considering the very large lion making it extra difficult to do anything but lounge around here. He crosses both sets of arms and flops down on the couch. Go ahead Titan, he'll wait for you to try.
