![]() ⏵ arrival ⏴ Arrival is absolutely not normal this month. Instead of a hospital bed, you wake in a tunnel with a large group of other people. These are the residents. A woman’s voice in an earpiece hurriedly clues you in with an apology. I apologize; I had not planned to introduce you this way, but we are low on time. Please proceed down the hallway. For everyone else, coming in is much the same. The instruction goes out to head to designated areas immediately, where companion bots will escort the residents of Etraya down into the depths, the area beneath where much the same is explained. ![]() ⏵ disrobing ⏴ The tunnel eventually opens directly into the foreroom of an expansive library, painted in marvelous hues and patterns with skylights far above. There are wizards milling about, bearded and holding tomes, quietly chatting amongst themselves. The reception area of the library has tall ceilings with equally tall doors Before you get too caught up in the scenery, a voice directs you forward. A gentleman, hunched and bespeckled craws out. "Make a line! Make a line, everyone! You cannot enter the library dressed as you are... Come forward and give me your name." The receptionist asks your given name and then hands over a box from underneath his counter. You can give him any name you want, he doesn’t seem to mind. It is tied with a tagged ribbon- labeling it accordingly. “The _____ robe of _______.”
As you read what the contents of the box may be, they form inside- Looking and behaving as your character expects them to. After all, magic is all in the wielder’s mind. Don your robes and enter the library. ![]() ⏵ unfamiliar familiars ⏴ For those without a familiar (like one hatched from an egg not too long ago) you may borrow one from the library counter. They all have strengths and weaknesses, but they will all assist in the very important mission. As you roam the library, they will make little indications that you are closer or further from finding a piece of the pearl.
![]() ⏵ the task at hand ⏴ With robes donned and creature in hand, you must now complete your mission. Find the pieces of the shattered pearl. As you enter the library, you may notice that it’s all very dim. There’s oil lamps around the place that may be moved with you to assist in your journey if your robes do not already emit light. Break off and search the library. There is a directory at the front to point guests to all the different sections.
Each section looks enough like the last, though the books within have immense power. Pick up the wrong book, and you might conjure a dragon or a historical figure! You must persist and avoid making too much noise or breaking too many things. Or else the Librarian, a tall mass of knotted fabric will confiscate your robe and usher you back outside. Your name will be struck from the list, and you must pick a new one to re-enter the library to continue the search. You can try to fight back against him- he may be set alight with the lamp. But should you be starting fires in here? Any thread with 15 comments between you and another may be submitted to find a piece of the pearl. There are 20 pieces altogether, and we will determine if the mission was successful by March 28th. A post will go live on the OOC comm for this! This mission occurs out of time, similar to how the spaceship had. Meaning, those currently in game can experience these events any time between now, and March 14th. Please direct all questions to our mod queries comment! |

[Ace is disappointed, and his voice shows it.]
Though I see something? I think there's an entrance to the right!
no subject
Let's go through it.
[ There's an urgency in his voice. This is serious!! ]
no subject
Books. just books.]
Well... that sucks.
no subject
Wow!! After all that build up in Gorgug's own mind! He looks at the disappointing state (that anyone should expect in a library). ]
It does, it does. What if we came here hungry? Then what? [ What if all a person wants is a sandwich before they start a mission?
Ugh. ] You wanna try and do the mission, then maybe we can leave? I'll show you where the food is. You can get hot toast. It's cold outside right now.
no subject
[How dare there be no food!]
Sure, what was the mission... a pearl? right?
no subject
[ Now that he thinks about it... ]
I guess it was already broken?
no subject
[Also, pearls are small. the fragments must be tiny.]
There's someone over there, we can ask them about it! He's wearing weird robes though...
no subject
[ Wow, very good analysis there. But it doesn't stop Gorgug from walking over to them if Ace does, and they'll be met with a harried receptionist, who doesn't give them much of a look. Only a 'Yes, yes, name in the record', and there's a sign-in book that he pushes towards them on the desk.
Gorgug looks at Ace, and-- maybe he's delaying himself, because he's wondering if he should put a cool name or fake name, if this guy does...!!! ]
sorry for the lateness, had computer problems
[Ace looks at the sign in book and shrugs, writing down his name on it. He offers the pen to Gorgug and grabs his robe.]
It's kinda ugly...
it's okay!
Why is mine ugly too? [ Ughhh, he's-- okay, he's gotta put this down so he can take off his backpack, but he's going to keep complaining! ] This is a joke, right? I think we're getting pranked.
[ Don't look at his robe too much, Ace. It puts an itch in the feet--kinda makes you wanna dance and sway just looking at it. ]
no subject
[Ace laughs, waving his around and putting it over his naked chest.]
Are we supposed to feel any different?
no subject
[ Well... Gorgug gives his arms a wave, 'cause that's dancing, right? But nothing's happening. ]
...
...I don't think so... [ Uhhh- ] What did your box say?
no subject
[Ace flaps his arms as if they were wings and laughs.]
Nothing is happening though.
no subject
I think these robes suck. [ Gorgug's great assessment after five seconds of thinking about it. ] But they've gotta let us in now, so-- as long as we don't need to fly, or dance, we should be alright. We've gotta pretend like we know what we're doing.
[ In case they get asked about how to use their robes, which hopefully they don't! ]
no subject
[Ace pouts, flapping the edges of his robe to see if he'll fly.]
I have no clue what I'm doing, just know I gotta get pieces of a pearl right? So let's go find them!
[And, because he's wearing his robe, he's allowed inside! How easy. Can't see that well though.]
no subject
But he does look at his companion (that isn't the toad), since, he does look fairly human... ]
Can you see? Are your eyes good?
[ He's gotta check! ]
no subject
[He lights up the tip of his pointer finger with fire. Just a small fire ball sitting calmly there.]
Does this make it better?
no subject
Can you keep it up? I can see without it, but-- a light's good. It makes it easier.
[ He kinda wants to touch it, just floating there above Ace's finger... but Gorgug will resist! ]
I can give us another light, if-- if we need to touch the books. But yours is pretty cool. Can you do that with any finger?
no subject
[Ace won't let Gorgug touch his fire, no matter where it is.]
Yeah, I can turn my whole body into fire.
no subject
Really? [ Hold on, let Gorgug imagine that while his face goes through a few expressions: wonder, horror, a mix of the two-- ]
--w-we shouldn't do that in a library. [ Granted, what was truly going through Gorgug's mind is if he could cover himself in flames... that's too much power!
But he also pauses for a beat with that very smart idea, and admits, ] But I can't do anything like that, by the way. I can just-- make things glow?
no subject
[Ace laughs, because turning himself on fire, on a wooden place, filled with paper, is a really, really bad idea. Funny, yes, but bad.]
Wait, really? How?! That's cool!
no subject
Well, they're near a bookshelf now, so Gorgug goes over and grabs a book. It seems simple enough, a book on history, and so when he turns back around with the book in hand, he closes his eyes for a second--
and when he opens it, the book is glowing with light--a fairly bright light to boot (or book?) that submerges the book itself into a white glow. Gorgug comes over, holding it out... kinda squinting as he thinks: ]
Should've picked something with a beam.
[ Like a torch. ]
no subject
That's so cool!!!!!!!!
[Ace flicks his fingers and the fire is gone, and he's looking at the glowing book in awe.]
Can you do this with anything?
no subject
Yeah, I guess. Maybe not with water-- but I've never tried.
[ So, who knows? ]
But I can't make a fire easy-- you know, that's way useful, if you want to stay warm. It's not really a warm light.
[ It might feel nice, but nothing else. ]
no subject
If you can make water glow that would be really fun to drink!
[He laughs, and then nods.]
I get what you mean. Your power allows you to see light the way though! And even if it's not warm, it's useful!
