⏵ arrival ⏴ Arrival is absolutely not normal this month. Instead of a hospital bed, you wake in a tunnel with a large group of other people. These are the residents. A woman’s voice in an earpiece hurriedly clues you in with an apology. I apologize; I had not planned to introduce you this way, but we are low on time. Please proceed down the hallway. An image of a shattered pearl pops up on your personal HUD and rotates. I am Aurora. You are joining many others on Etraya in order to save your world from destruction by completing missions. Your current mission is to find the pieces of this object that have become scattered in the library ahead of you. For everyone else, coming in is much the same. The instruction goes out to head to designated areas immediately, where companion bots will escort the residents of Etraya down into the depths, the area beneath where much the same is explained. ⏵ disrobing ⏴ The tunnel eventually opens directly into the foreroom of an expansive library, painted in marvelous hues and patterns with skylights far above. There are wizards milling about, bearded and holding tomes, quietly chatting amongst themselves. The reception area of the library has tall ceilings with equally tall doors Before you get too caught up in the scenery, a voice directs you forward. A gentleman, hunched and bespeckled craws out. "Make a line! Make a line, everyone! You cannot enter the library dressed as you are... Come forward and give me your name." The receptionist asks your given name and then hands over a box from underneath his counter. You can give him any name you want, he doesn’t seem to mind. After all, magic is all in the wielder’s mind. Don your robes and enter the library. ⏵ unfamiliar familiars ⏴ For those without a familiar (like one hatched from an egg not too long ago) you may borrow one from the library counter. They all have strengths and weaknesses, but they will all assist in the very important mission. As you roam the library, they will make little indications that you are closer or further from finding a piece of the pearl. Find the pieces of the shattered pearl. As you enter the library, you may notice that it’s all very dim. There’s oil lamps around the place that may be moved with you to assist in your journey if your robes do not already emit light. Break off and search the library. There is a directory at the front to point guests to all the different sections. Wings of the Library A General Works B Music C Philosophy, Religion D Fine Arts E History, Auxiliary Sciences F Language and Literature G Magic, General H Science J Geography, Anthopology K Medicine M Agriculture N Hobbies, Recreation P Social Science Q Military R Political Science S Practical Arts T Law W People X Education Y Spiders Each section looks enough like the last, though the books within have immense power. Pick up the wrong book, and you might conjure a dragon or a historical figure! You must persist and avoid making too much noise or breaking too many things. Or else the Librarian, a tall mass of knotted fabric will confiscate your robe and usher you back outside. Your name will be struck from the list, and you must pick a new one to re-enter the library to continue the search. You can try to fight back against him- he may be set alight with the lamp. But should you be starting fires in here? ⏵ NOTES ⏴ Any thread with 15 comments between you and another may be submitted to find a piece of the pearl. There are 20 pieces altogether, and we will determine if the mission was successful by March 28th. A post will go live on the OOC comm for this! This mission occurs out of time, similar to how the spaceship had. Meaning, those currently in game can experience these events any time between now, and March 14th. If a character doesn't have a surname, does the one they supply count as first or last?

The chart goes by just first name! But the receptionist will give a robe based solely on what a character tells him.

Certainly. These are books pulled in from all over the multiverse.

I'm sorry, can you clarify the detals on the robes? [ As you read what the contents of the box may be, they form inside- Looking and behaving as your character expects them to. ] "they" would be the robes that appear in the box? behaving as we expect them to? meaning the robes do the things in the descriptors? or is it the characters? For instance, if you got the likeable robe of reading, what would be the result?

The character is handed a box. The box contains robes with a label. This label creates an expectation of function to the character opening the box.

Given the Likeable Robe of Reading, your character can interpret this in multiple ways. Perhaps they really like the robe itself and assists in Reading a book. Perhaps the robe makes the character more likable to others and enhances their ability to read other character’s intentions or emotions. It all depends on the IC mindset of the character.

This way, multiple characters with the same robe will have something that produces different effects.

If they hate their robe, they can get back in line, give a new name and receive a new robe. Does this help?

If the person receiving the robes just thinks the name is for flavor, does that mean the robe doesn't have an effect?

If the person receiving the robes thinks it’s totally for flavor, in spite of seeing magical robes all around them, then yes.

They can proceed into the magical library with magical books and active magic usage with a mundane cosplay robe.

The Skulking Librarian will assume they are a threat, sensing no magic on them and give chase.

Is there anything... magical about the bookworms (needed for the toads)? And roughly how difficult would it be to find some? Thank you!

The bookworms are easy to find! Bookworm damage is apparent on the closed pages of a book, any book that has gone untouched for some time is prone to it.

Check the more mundane sections, like History. There are no more bookworms in the Spider section, I fear.

Does the Science wing of the Library include Science Fiction books or are they included somewhere else?

Science Fiction books are in section F with Literature.

Do the sections of books only apply to our Earth? Like would Mal, being from Star Wars, open history books and get historical figures from her universe, or just ours? (Or like open a geography book and see an illusion of a planet she knows)

The Librarian will not be thrilled about it! It is potentially possible for someone to escape with a book at the end of the mission, if successful.

Yes, anyone who finds a shard (ie, has a fifteen comment thread) gets to keep their robe!

Post-pearl-finding:

1. Since Mayuko has the Fair Robe of Mind-Reading, I am cool with any stipulations you want to lay down regarding the power's strength and frequency. In the off-off chance it keeps some power and she uses it again. (ie surface-level thoughts only, or searching deeper can be done once a week or three days or something).

2. After claiming them, can the robes be swapped between pearl-finding partners? Could the powers still be used?

1. The powers will fall under the same stipulations in which they were created: however she had interpreted the robes to work is how they continue to work. So if she believes it only works on surface level thoughts, then that's all it does, for example. However, who they work on will be on an individual basis (some characters have mind-shielding abilities, for example) and also reliant on player permission.

2. If the robes are swapped, the powers will still work but they work as the original owner interpreted them. Their belief/understanding of the robes is what shaped their magic and creation, so it would remain the same even if someone else wearing them might think they work a different way.

Alas, nothing. It is not potent in its shattered form. Please do not accidentally ingest it nor allow a less competent companion ingest it- the wizards will not be pleased, and neither will you.

The wizards know plenty about the pearl, but they’re not about to share. If asked, Gorgug will be told to mind his business and be happy with his rewards. After all, he has a wish yet ungranted.
