![]() ⏵ arrival ⏴ Arrival is absolutely not normal this month. Instead of a hospital bed, you wake in a tunnel with a large group of other people. These are the residents. A woman’s voice in an earpiece hurriedly clues you in with an apology. I apologize; I had not planned to introduce you this way, but we are low on time. Please proceed down the hallway. For everyone else, coming in is much the same. The instruction goes out to head to designated areas immediately, where companion bots will escort the residents of Etraya down into the depths, the area beneath where much the same is explained. ![]() ⏵ disrobing ⏴ The tunnel eventually opens directly into the foreroom of an expansive library, painted in marvelous hues and patterns with skylights far above. There are wizards milling about, bearded and holding tomes, quietly chatting amongst themselves. The reception area of the library has tall ceilings with equally tall doors Before you get too caught up in the scenery, a voice directs you forward. A gentleman, hunched and bespeckled craws out. "Make a line! Make a line, everyone! You cannot enter the library dressed as you are... Come forward and give me your name." The receptionist asks your given name and then hands over a box from underneath his counter. You can give him any name you want, he doesn’t seem to mind. It is tied with a tagged ribbon- labeling it accordingly. “The _____ robe of _______.”
As you read what the contents of the box may be, they form inside- Looking and behaving as your character expects them to. After all, magic is all in the wielder’s mind. Don your robes and enter the library. ![]() ⏵ unfamiliar familiars ⏴ For those without a familiar (like one hatched from an egg not too long ago) you may borrow one from the library counter. They all have strengths and weaknesses, but they will all assist in the very important mission. As you roam the library, they will make little indications that you are closer or further from finding a piece of the pearl.
![]() ⏵ the task at hand ⏴ With robes donned and creature in hand, you must now complete your mission. Find the pieces of the shattered pearl. As you enter the library, you may notice that it’s all very dim. There’s oil lamps around the place that may be moved with you to assist in your journey if your robes do not already emit light. Break off and search the library. There is a directory at the front to point guests to all the different sections.
Each section looks enough like the last, though the books within have immense power. Pick up the wrong book, and you might conjure a dragon or a historical figure! You must persist and avoid making too much noise or breaking too many things. Or else the Librarian, a tall mass of knotted fabric will confiscate your robe and usher you back outside. Your name will be struck from the list, and you must pick a new one to re-enter the library to continue the search. You can try to fight back against him- he may be set alight with the lamp. But should you be starting fires in here? Any thread with 15 comments between you and another may be submitted to find a piece of the pearl. There are 20 pieces altogether, and we will determine if the mission was successful by March 28th. A post will go live on the OOC comm for this! This mission occurs out of time, similar to how the spaceship had. Meaning, those currently in game can experience these events any time between now, and March 14th. Please direct all questions to our mod queries comment! |
Arrival
I think so.
[He's doing his best to sound reasonably calm about all of this, but he's listening for a voice he can't hear, and it's neither the one on the earpiece or Paine's. Silence is not comfortable in this respect, he'd gotten used to the murmur of another's voice in the back of his mind. It had been reassurance. Now?
... Now there's a woman who is definitely NOT turning into a dragon, any more than he was a scaly monstrosity himself.]
... But it's better than turning into a monster, isn't it?
no subject
No, what makes Paine stare is the boy's rhetorical question. That had not actually occurred to her.]
...You're saying our two choices are kidnapping or hideous monster transformation?
no subject
But a nice coincidence. He can blend in a little.]
Or kidnapping and hideous monster transformation.
[That's not reassuring at all. His gaze shifts, to the tunnel around them and the collection of people.]
Though this is a bit different from what happened before, and when things change, the results might be different too.
no subject
[That's a good thing, but also it's not so good, because turning into monsters? That doesn't sound fun. At all.]
Any other weird, scary things I should be worried about?
no subject
Not that I know of, that's about the worst of it. I've only been here a little while, and I could be wrong about things not being worse.
[That's cheer inducing, isn't it?
But maybe not everyone thought turning into a monster was the worst possible thing that could happen, and Paine's got a whole suite of misery to look forward to! Sephiroth's ideas are a little more.. focused.]
It might be fine. The quests I was expected to help with previously did make things a little better so this one might too. We're still people, so it's a good start.

[She crosses her arms. Forewarned is forearmed, they say, and if she was going to make a guess about what would happen if she was unexpectedly whisked away to a different world, "a fun, pleasantly lighthearted time" definitely wouldn't be it.]
I'm used to going on missions, but they've all been ones I decided to go on. And it sounds like the stakes are pretty damn steep.
[That is, if the "save your world" story is true.]
no subject
[He didn't know if the saving worlds thing is true or not, it sounded too big for people to actually do.
And what would a pearl have to do with it? He pulls his blanket a bit tighter, frowning.]
It will be helpful to have a goal to pursue but I am unsure what the purpose of a pearl might be to that goal. How can it save or damn a whole planet?
no subject
Good question. I don't know, either. [She crosses her arms. It sounds a hell of a lot like an errand, to her.] It's probably a magic pearl, at least. But if there's anything really special about it, I don't know what it is. Yet.
no subject
[He removes his own, studying it for a moment, rolling it around in his hands. Honestly it looked like a standard wireless headset to him, but where were you supposed to touch to send a call?]
It seems a little suspicious to me. .. More htan a little I suppose..
no subject
[She watches as he rolls around the earpiece and takes out her own. The Gullwings use something similar to stay in touch with each other.
But again, the element of choice rings strongly with her.]
I'd like some proof about this whole "save-our-worlds" thing, personally.
no subject
[However, he's also inclined to follow the crowds towards the distant library and try to find out; he hesitates for a moment before turning just enough to head in that direction; Paine may or may not follow as she chooses.]
But I don't think answers will be found here. Perhaps there will be up ahead. I don't know what threat could possibly be risking ALL of our planets. We're likely very far from each other.
