strangely, they win. Maria doesn't have good luck (considering her situation, is that really surprising?) but when they just keep winning, it does become fun. fun enough that Maria forgets herself and does genuinely enjoy herself as they play. she would not call herself a competitive person but there is something about winning when it feels like all you do is lose.
