Carver takes another drink, then sets his mug aside with a sigh and returns to his food. It's important to eat. It's a ritual, in its way, and they need rituals to remember God and their brothers both. Even with all the looming questions that Carver's not quite brave enough to face head on.

"Eat," he adds, gently. "I'll be with you every step, okay?"
