In the grand scheme of things the safety of a small amphibian is not terribly high on his list, so the toad is left to fend for itself as he works on dragging himself out of the seething, disgusting sinkhole that is worms and pearl shards, watching to make sure he won't be UNDER the shelf if Gorgug succeeds in toppling it, and --
And the answer is apparently no, because the attacks are continuing, and now there's a flying hammer, and Sephiroth's never seen a cartoon in his LIFE so he must assume it's an actual weapon. The next flying book that assaults him is caught.
The unnatural darkness suddenly has a garish new source of light as the book catches fire, a Fira more than enough for something he's actually got in his hands, and the tome hurled with alarming precision at the attacking hammer.
Pearls can wait, now he has a goal, and that's wrenching himself free of the mire he's embroiled in, burn everything in his path that tries to attack him, and make sure the half-orc stays alive and unburnt in the process.
If the library didn't want to catch fire maybe it shouldn't be so flammable.]
